Cary Fukunaga & Idris Elba
Low-key I'm still disappointed he couldn't make the It remake it would've been amazing but I'm glad this coming out soon. Was hoping they'd link up in True Detective but we're getting it now instead

Yeah I'm just glad there's venues like Netflix and HBO there are multiple ways a talented person in the business can stay working outside the system as you said Hollywood is always slow with diversity. I think the major problem with the New Line It remake was New Line making it on the cheap and formulaic like they've been doing with their recent horror flicks.I'd imagine the inevitable success of this will open more doors for him, Hollywood wise. It's hard for a non-white director to get ahead in that game. And then there's the question: is Hollywood worth it? If I was a talented storyteller I'd be far more interested in the television medium right now. Netflix isn't on set telling him what to do, or who to cast in order to appeal to one audience or another. Money is drying up in Hollywood for the type of films Cary seems interested in making (ie non blockbusters).
I doubt he'll ever go back to True Detective given the tensions with Pizzolatto but perhaps he can interest HBO in another series. Preferably with Idris or Fassbender

Yup. The recent Fast n Furious film was diverse as fukk and did major bucks. Straight Outta Compton just made a boat load of money. Yet these studios still want to adhere to the tired blueprint of white leads no matter what. Not saying black people should get roles because they're black, just that studios need to stop acting like casting a black person sullies a film. The audience isn't nearly as white as they think.
TV understands that, which is why so many of these recent great shows look like society.
On horror tho...you 100% right. If it's not a found footage film or a formulaic remake, studios don't give a fukk. Horror is almost dead right now due to this shyt. The audience has been conditioned to expect a scare every 5 to 10 minutes, making slow burn horror films dangerous.
I disagree on the horror part. There have been a few really good indie horror flicks the past year or 2 and a few more on the horizon
