I think that kelce doesn't run predetermined routes anymore, he reads the defense and runs to an open spot

I wanna say they talked about this in an interview awhile ago

That's exactly what it is. He finds the holes in the D. They said it used to drive Reid crazy that Kelce wouldn't run his assigned routes but he learned it was an asset.
