A good place to start the discussion is why do you know the names of the viruses, bacteria and diseases you listed?

The simple answer is because they cause harm. Otherwise there is no reason for you to care about the billions of microbes which call your body home and benefit you in countless ways.

Just a small example are the microbes that have colonized your gastrointestinal system and without which you couldn’t digest properly, couldn’t build your immune system or that prevent other dangerous non beneficial microbes from invading and causing disease.

That wasn't the question. The question was "is there an infectious disease that actually improves someone instead of trying to kill them?" Nobody ever claimed all microscopic organisms caused disease, injury, or death.

The microbes you mentioned were not actually infectious diseases; if the microbes invade the body and multiply, they are by definition infectious. If the same microbes are not causing disease, they have low pathogenicity and are not virulent, thus they don't really qualify as infectious disease that actually improve someone since they never produced clinical disease in their host. An actual scientist/researcher should know that.

how worried are you about covid?

Not very anymore. First vaccine should be in facility no later than President's Day, and the number of positive cases has gone down consistently since May.

There are also plans to increase the number of tests performed as a type of active surveillance. If that happens and those numbers are also low (random asymptomatic folks staying negative), then I think the worst is behind us.

I'm more concerned that if people don't get their flu shots it's gonna be a nightmare people testing for coronavirus, flu, strep, and potentially even norovirus all at the same time. It's that mix of 3-4 communicable diseases hitting all at once that has our folks like.:bryan:

Would not be surprised if we end up working 10-12 hours shifts plus weekends like we were when rona first hit.

what's the worse thing you had to tell somebody

Worst thing is when you (your supervisors) have to tell someone they got the bug.

The way the life force drains from their eyes instantly like they got OSKO'd is :mjcry:.

One time they told somebody and their spouse they had it then had to hit the :hubie::troll:, talmbout the confirmatory test was wrong and you ain't sick. Mighta been the closest I came to getting shot at the job. :ehh:

Has there been any "close calls" of cross contamination, or diseases leaving the lab and infecting your co-workers? :lupe:

No, people are still more infectious than most of the labs we prep for transport. Coupla recent instances where someone got rona and their whole section got bushed because they were close contacts.

Now there are a bunch of labs that come back as TNP because they leaked or broke down in shipping. I wonder if it's some trucks and planes out there with people's bodily fluids and shyt all in the back.

Whats the worst infectious disease transferred by sex

1st Place: HIV. Should go without saying. Some strains are more abx resistant than others. :merchant:
2nd Place: Donovanosis (if left untreated your junk could essentially be eaten away).:bryan:
3rd Place: Syphilis. Can lead to brain and other organ damage, blindness, etc. if untreated.

And, as I said above, is technically not an infectious disease. :ld:

Another one, is your job tied to government? If so have you seen a change between the Obama/Trump years?

Yes, it's a federal facility. We largely ignore a lot of local/state policies that aren't federally mandated.

As far as differences go, no, not really. Sometimes there are so many layers in a bureaucracy that you get insulated from the fukk shyt. Unfortunately that works both ways when trying to send changes/information up the ladder.
