I hope they get bodied execution style.
LOL. I used to wonder to myself why all of these recruiters would call me, I would get interview opportunities, go through the first round for multiple hours only to never get a call back.

One dead giveaway is when they never ask or bring up Salary in the initial interview process as far as what you currently make if you have a job or what you were paid previously.

Another is when the personnel or HR person does not meet with you upon the initial interview. If you don't meet with them or salary isn't initially brought up then chances are they are wasting your time.

My advice to those out there job hunting would be to network. Get out there and talk to people. Your network is your best asset. Also be clear and concise with recruiters about what you want so they dont have you running around all over the place.

I usually come prepared with a list of questions about the job primarily based off my own research. I then ask questions of how I would fit in using specific scenarios specific to my skill set. If they can't answer those questions directly then I know it's game.

Lastly, if you are in CA and you are black and your hiring manager is a black woman, as a man, you may as well walk straight out the door because you are NOT going to get hired by her. No disrespect but sisters are some of the most insecure, c00nish creatures at the exec levels.

I have no degree, which is a death sentence for most nikkas, but I'll cultural fit my ass off, talkin about pink floyd, the festivals in the city, the weather, hockey, the passion for the industry, etc while faking interest in their personal lives for twenty mins. I also google the recruiters to gain info. Last job offer I received was because I mentioned that I loved writing (which is halftrue) when I saw that he was passionate about the subject on his linkedin page. :pachaha:

Realest post in this thread. Yes you will feel disgusted and a sell out, but if you follow what this guy is doing, you will thrive.

You gotta play the game to get your foot in the door. Get your experience and skills and have that work for you.

Unfortunately that's how it is. Way more people than jobs so you at their mercy for the most part.

Everywhere...You never there.
Why am I being mentioned here? :dwillhuh:

Is there discrimination in hiring? Yes in every field. But some of us also don't interview well or sell ourselves in the interview process even if you are qualified for the position

Racism in ATL vs. NY? I've never lived in NY so I can't speak on NYC, but there's more than enough job opportunity in ATL (unemployment just dropped again for last month)

Mentioned you because of the ATL reference. I know how passionate you are about the A.

Why is everything about acting a c00n or tap dancing for whitey ?

you kow asian dudes, indian dudes, and other white dudes have to play the same game right?

you think the average low-middle class white dude lives that corporate lifestyle and shyt?
naw, they have to act out of character most of the time just to get the job as well.

Stop thinking you are demeaning yourself by "playing the game" that they want.

once you get in the door you will (9/10) be able to act more like your regular self. The interview process is just a weeding out process to see if you are willing to play the game or not.
if you walk in with a chip on your shoulder, they will assume you will work that way to. Why would anyone want to work with that?

take the chip off...go kill that interview..get hired...then put that chip back on if you need to.

It's harder to get fired than it is to get hired in most places.

Any man over the age of 21 should know that interview turn you into a product, and you have to sell yourself. It doesnt mean tapdancing, but coming in on some :jawalrus:"Qualifications speak for themselves" aint doing you any favors. The employers in most industries have the upper hand.

Ask a single question before you interview: will they like you? Find out how to be likeable and folks will overlook some shyt just to have someone on they can see themselves kicking it with, even if they never actually do.

You end up sounding like them whiny liberals who always frame these situations as "its not me, its them."
You can march to the beat of your own drum if you want to, but if they dont even like you, why should they hire you? You are going to be in the same work space as these folks. Nobody wanna work with someone who might give them the:birdman:All day.

I'm sure you've probably sold yourself to bytches before to some extent,so you gotta be willing to do it for a check unfortunately in the meantime:mjcry:....I've never felt like I was over the top kissing azz,but then again I'm not competing for 50K+ a year jobs so I'm sure its different, maybe that's what you gotta do to get to the big time....I just answer the questions, telling the obvious bullshyt I think they want to hear in some cases, but also telling them the real in other situations.

Two white women?you should've just turned the charm on and gave em a glimpse of that moufpiece:youngsabo:....Maybe you went in treating them like god because this job was in the balance. You gotta sell yourself but also its okay to interview the interviewer,i think they like that shyt as long as you can tie it back into the job....They more likely to hire somebody they had a good time w/ on a friendly level then the person whos overqualified:manny:....You know this based on who gets the promotions,it aint about who the best worker is,its usually whos most liked and is still a good worker.

Oh ok. I don't want people to think I'm saying Atlanta is perfect and that anyone who comes here will get a job but sometimes we have to do a better job in interviews to get work

Good thread to read, especially with some of the responses in here. I just got off a phone interview with a recruiter inside of a company. It was supposed to be a 30 minute screening, but I spent an extra 20 minutes asking questions and interviewing her about the role and the company. She better bring me back for a second interview next week
