I wish The Hughes Brothers would stop bullshytting and direct more classic movies.

Directing and writing....Makes you appreciate the late 80s n 90's so much more. We was eating. Hopefully we get some more good stuff out of Peele with black cinema also. Get the financial backing, and some dope ideas/inspiration from the OG's to put something down so cats can really eat again.

Gotta add

F.Gary Gray
Matty Rich
Franc Reyes
Rick Famuyiwa

There's a lot more politics in the film biz now than back in our era, because now the box office returns speak before you even finish the script/treatment

i couldn't even imagine a live action version of akira. the budget required would be astronomical I'd imagine

I think it was Albert who was going to make it. He'd spent like 7-8 years trying to get it done and they were really close to production but I think they had issues with the budget.

WB was trying to get it done for like $50 million and Hughes wanted $100 millie

Nah. Warners was trying to give him 90-100 million. I think he believed like many (he needed 150 million). Regardless a few directors have dropped off Akira. It's a hard project to get done.
