ROXANNE SHANTE was a spitter..

RUN DMC were spitters and they utilized a ghostwriter on Raising Hell lp

MC LYTE was a spitter and she had a ghostwriter

MA$E was a spitter and he utilized a ghostwriter

And KANYE regardless what people think is a SPITTER too and his whole career has been damn there GHOSWRITTEN

Gonna need some receipts on the DMC thing but even still, they predate the lyrical era too.

:sas1: here u go sir...

One of Rick Rubin's pet projects for the young LL COOL j and also as a way for him to generate side revenue was ghostwriting for Run DMC and various Rush Mgmt artists ...

After writing Can u rock it like this for Run Dmc in 1985 as well as a few beastie boys tracks

He was solicited to work on the follow up RAISING HELL LP....

It's not cut and dry. Some people who have written for others had some verses not written by them. You could be a great spitter and a wack songvwriter. Or sometimes rapper A could write something great but for whatever reason it doesn't fit his voice or style so he offers it to rapper B who it would fit perfect. Now say rapper B is already great and recognized. Heck, say rapper B has even written for other people. If rapper B sees the greatness in the verses, if he sees the vision and how it fits him perfectly, should he say no out of ego? Shouldn't the music be priority above ego? If he does it and gives credit, does it discredit what he did?

Also i think there are levels and circumstances that make it cool or not cool.

Nobody demeans Snoop, but nobody mentions his name with the Nas/Jay/Rakim's either, they put his position as an icon in proper perspective, as they do with Dr. Dre.

That's completely different than actually being out here vying for rap supremacy with another nikkas hand up your ass. It ain't about pseudo purism..."Ghostwriting" is taboo and for good reason. Lebron being rumored to be caught up in steroid rings is one thing, it's another for him to actually come out and say I take PEDS and eat them in front of you. Even if you were to overlook that to appreciate his achievements, it sets a precedent that nobody REALLY wants to deal with. Nobody who is of sound mind and understands this culture believes that 100% of rappers write 100% of their rhymes, as someone who has been in writing pools it's a very nuanced conversation to have.

But nikkas outchea making top 10's and GOAT MC lists, having their scribes put on soda cans and being sat next to GODS is a bad look, IMO of course. It's not nearly as cut and dry as your thread premise suggests.

This was funnier before the edit. I thought you left all that loose code on purpose haha

I love LL, first rapper I stanned.

But he been getting accused of using the tents for a long time now, in fact the whole Canibus/Eminem beef jumped off because he heard that Em wrote his 4321 verse. Em denied that but he obviously had writers so it was believable. Now you got people noticing/asking why you don't see LL on top ___ lists.

I don't necessarily jive wit that, LL is an icon and an awesome talent but that doesn't negate the stigma surrounding ghostwriting or the notion that he could walk around like Snoop admitting that people write whole albums for him and still be "GOAT" status. If people found out Poof was writing Eminem's raps in his prime he woulda got Vanilla Iced because his whole credibility was built around him being able to rhyme.

WHO RAISED YOU PEOPLE??...it obviously WASN'T HIP HOP :beli:

you obviously didn't hear the OG version of ROCK THE BELLS that use to get late night play on Kiss fm in new york with Red Alert...

And wasnt included on his debut album cause Russell felt it was too "hard" LYRICALLY!!!

probally one of the most lyrical tracks with NO HOOK that as released in the 80's

During this episode vocally I explode
My title is the king of the FM mode
See,My volume expands to consume
And my structures emote a lyrical heirloom
Vocally pulsating, I initiate gyrating
Ya must respond to my bells, there's no waiting
For the duration, there's no articulation
Receiving ovation for the bell association
The vocalization techniques I employ
The voice of my shadow could dust a toy boy
The injection of bells into this beat
The result: enough energy to amputate your feet
Greater insulator microphone dominator
My name is Cool J, manipulator innovator
Connoisseur, I'm sure my percussion will excite
These bells are gonna rock all night

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Well apparently Snoop couldn't write that day either ..and he is a rapper...

The psuedo purists will try to demean guys like Snoop simply because he has another guy involved in the SONG WRITING process
:what: what VERSE do Snoop got on the song? Snoop is on the hook. Some producers include the hook with the beat when they give it to a rapper. This is false equivalency at its finest. I mean if thats the case than nikkas wouldve been crazy outraged when Jay Z’s Fade To Black documentary came out. Snoop wasnt spittin bars on that song.
