I think big budget Hollywood Productions are done until a vaccine. Here's why.

Was tenet that bad? No theaters are open where I live

Well they couldn't pack the theaters and people weren't ready to come back anyway. It was 'ok' overseas but here in the states it did nothing. It had a HUGE budget. They were hoping to recoup some in theaters with no competition and then maybe offset the rest with an early VOD release.

It didn't work out that well. Mulan was straight VOD and that didn't work either.

Can’t they rerelease the movie once theaters open again?

Then they are going to have to slash the budgets which is going to make it harder to do big super hero movies and Jurassic Park type shyt. Netflix, Disney+ and HBO MAX are not going to produce movies that have a production budget that big.

At most they would do $100M maybe. HBO didn't even spend this much on Game of Thrones.

Movie studios and theater chains are in serious trouble period. Can't see anybody making a movie that cost over $20 million tops for a good while

If you're a true hardcore movie fan(and I'm not one of them), going to the theater and experiencing a movie on a giant screen, incredible sound, etc. a perfect level of darkness is unmatched unless you have a real theater room at your house.

And mostly only the richer ppl can truly emulate that.

Point being, regular ppl prefer going to the movies.

I'm not mad at that. Just wait otherwise studios are probably just gonna be wasting money. I know I wasn't going to no theaters until a vaccine anyway :manny:

1) well duh, especially when NY and Cali - major markets - don't even have theaters open for those who aren't bothered by going to the theater to go to

2) trolls "worked"

but nothing VOD is going to make the same since you're getting more eyes on it for less. but mulan is not the measure, that shyt was considered a flop as a cartoon back in the 90's. a studio needs to take the chance of releasing something on demand across all platforms - Hulu, Sling, YT and the other live TV streaming services, Prime/Apple TV, Comcast and the other big cable companies all at once, it's 2020, exclusives aint working, you're not going to get tons of people to sign up or switch services for one release, the apple/spotify/tidal wars proved that. You can't judge how this works when a company only releases it on their service as an upcharge

That's never going to happen and likely isn't going to make that much money for the studio anyway even it's a VOD style release.

Movie theaters have been in decline for years now because of streaming and pirating.

Next year you'll see a few cinema chains go under because of covid and streaming. I don't see all of them recovering from this year unless they're bailed out, and that can only buy them time now that movie streaming is more popular for a big chunk of people.
