The Sopranos is a very good show, but it's easily one of the most overrated TV series of all time. When I think of how many awards it's won it makes me sick to my stomach. The Wire was SIGNIFICANTLY better than any season of the Sopranos.

David Simon was right, the Wire was ignored because of it's predominantly black cast, which is why it got so few award nominations while it was airing. Most of the love the wire gets has been years after it ended.

I agree its overrated, but you have to compare it to other shows from the late 90's. Shows like Breaking Bad are better, but they would never have been created if Sopranos never existed.

True, although Oz was first the Sopranos popularized the non-episodic drama. They fathered a lot of show's style.

Breaking Bad is not better than The Sopranos. Tony is more interesting than Walter White imo, but even if you gave Walter the edge, the supporting cast of The Sopranos shyts all over the supporting cast of Breaking Bad. Like it's not even close on that front.

I watched the first season of the Sopranos on DVD with the director's commentary. David Chase pretty much admitted that back then each episode had a totally different writing team, and the different teams didn't always even talk to each other to coordinate storylines. They're lucky it turned out as good as it did.

Or you could subscribe to HBONowfor a week, binge it, then unsubscribe. Might be cheaper though you wouldn't be able to rewatch it.

Edit: I also think the series is on Amazon for free if you have Prime.

But BB had a more cohesive story and way less filler eps that had you like.

I personally didn't even like Tony, Chris was my G.

The sexual tension was too damn high that episode I was convinced Tony was gonna pull something off.
