Bro that's what I'm talking about too.
So you can go as an IT and get all of the certs that a CTN would get too?
No
I’m saying it depends on your job. Basic IT’s won’t get ANY certs probably.. most of their shyt is on ships
They teach you basic A+ in A-School but you don’t take the exams. I already had my A+ for years before I went into the military.
At most, you will get sent to the c-school where I was sent . The training is called CID Information Systems Technician and Systems Administtrator. Thats where you will get Server certifications, Active Directory, Sec +, CCENT, etc., unless They changed it. I was in the 2nd class they ever had but that was years ago. This was also a C-school not an A-school
CTN’s require you to get Sec+ immediately in A-school unless they changed it. They might get Net+ immediately too. They get taught coding, it was 25 weeks long compared to the IT’s 8 weeks long A-school, and they move FAST. Their A-School is basically IT’s C-School with focusing on different subjects. CTN’s are the ones who conduct red team and blue team exercises for the Navy.
Basically, IT’s get entry level/intermediate training while CTN’s get intermediate-afvanced training
Now what you also get depends on your comman whether you’re IT or CTN. If you’re an IT and your CO wants you to be SEC+ certified, then you study on your own and take it. Or if you want to go through a fiber bootcamp, or learn CCNA through a CCNA bootcamp, they will send you, pay for your exams, etc. If you want to get CISSP you have to convince your LPO/CPO to send you to the course and they will... etc
Navy has no problem training your ass if thats what you want or is required. I was required to pass the C-School before I went to to work for a “3-letter-agency” as my next duty station. Attrition was very low, lost 80% of the class of regular IT’s and know-it-alls.
Attrition is low for CTN’s as well. If you can’t pass that shyt then prepare to be reassigned to another job (most likely IT)
Oh yeah, and if you fail a cert exam more than once you’re out basically
