I used to feel like there was opportunity out there
Now I feel like even if I get a job what's the point

I'm in this networking IT discord
And dudes who are seniors are looking for jobs

Whats the point?

I'm like, should I even have tried to get a career in Networking?

You're focused on titles, "these guys are seniors."

Network engineering is actually a decent growth area in IT due to the need to build large scalable datacenters to support massive AI and cloud workloads.

What does your skillset look like? What do you actually know? What have you done?

If you have strong network engineering skills and strong coding skills you might be damn near unstoppable. Can likely building cool shyt in big tech and finance.

I'll say this much. In this day and age it don't matter how much you love your job and how good you are at it. your experience doesnt even matter.

all that matters is who you work with for multiple reasons. the biggest reason is that literally one person joining your team/firm is all it takes to completely override whatever progress, goodwill etc. you've buillt there. If that person doesnt see value in you, doesnt like you, or even doesnt like your boss etc...you can end up jobless.

it happened to me last year and its only after 10 months that I was finally able to get a decent job (at a 33% paycut). 10 years of hard work and networking can literally go down the drain just because one person joins your team lol. and when youre on the hunt for a new gig you can be the most qualified but it doesnt matter. the hiring manager might feel threatened by you or not have the "budget" to pay you; so theyll go for the cheaper less experienced option.

It is only going to get worse too with AI / robotics on the horizons

thats my humble opinion. its up to everyone to figure out how to start their own business because nobody is safe. Use the tariff nonsense and increased adoption of AI because this paradigm is similar to the internet boom, smartphone boom, social media boom etc. Cash out or die trying

Shyt's getting crazy.I hear even warehouse jobs like UPS, FedEx, and Amazon are planning to go fully automated. It'll be interesting to see what kind of robots they use to load/unload trailers.

I agree. Immigrants should stop coming here looking for opportunities they couldn't create at home as a majority.

You're not wrong. My friend is thinking of leaving his Amazon job (tech job) because of the environment. I'm telling him to STAY. Watch this damn market

Depends on his skillset. The rich get richer. People are bouncing around big tech and finance like crazy.

The catch: gotta know what youre doing.

yea AI only going to get better, PLAN NOW.

Same as above. This is a growth area for those with the right skillset.
