No you don't, not now at least. Thruman leaves his body wide open Floyd would jab him to death then thurman gets tired n boom lead right after lead right
Thurman is a bad choice for several reasons:
1. He's unproven. He has yet to fight top competition at 147, so we don't know whether he's truly elite or not. He hasn't earned it like Maidana did. He needs more notches on his belt.
2. He isn't a big name yet. The PPV numbers would be terrible because Thurman's name hasn't been built up enough.
3. Is a he a true threat? This one is less important, bc who can truly pose a threat to Floyd, but Thurman isn't even the closest thing to a threat.
Because of 1 and 2, Floyd has no good reason to take the fight. It won't help his legacy and it won't get people to buy the ppv. Not enough incentive for Floyd, Haymon, GB, or Showtime.
I also think it's unfair to Thurman because he's just not ready. But hopefully Schaefer and Haymon will fix that by throwing Thurman in with Khan, Porter, Guerrero, or names like that soon enough.
There's always next year for Thurman if he can win 1 or 2 big fights before then.
Here's my current list for Floyd opponents for next year based on the criteria above:
1. Shawn Porter if he beats Kell Brook up.
2. Lara if he beats Canelo
3. Winner of Cotto/Martinez, so Floyd can be the lineal champ in 3 weight classes at the same damn time.
4. Danny Garcia if he has a good debut at 147.
This is probably what the Actual list for September looks like:
1. Garcia in his 147 debut
2. Khan if he turns his back on Islam.
3. Maidana again
4.Shawn Porter
5. Thurman
I honestly think Keith is more ready for Floyd than Porter is...Porter got the more worthy resume but Keith is the slightly better boxer IMHO...Regardless though they both ain't ready for Floyd yet, they need a few more fights...I want to see Keith fight that fakkit Khan before he gets a Floyd shot...
Danny is probably the best option at 147...He has name recognition and the resume...As far as skills go he has no chance at actually winning this fight, he is simply way too slow and doesn't bring the pressure like Maidana to at least make it interesting...I think Floyd's next big competitive fight will be next year for the middleweight crown...
Brook ain't taking that fight. He doesnt have the heart. Personally, I think it's going to either be Maidana or the winner of Canelo/Lara. I wish Floyd would fight Porter, but if he does, he loses. That said, financially it wouldn't make sense as Porter's name isn't where it should be just even after mopping Alexander and Paulie. Then there's the risk involved for Floyd, and after Maidana made it apparent that he's not invincible, someone more polished like Porter would pull it off. Porter has the right combination of bully and boxer to succeed where Hatton, Cotto, Oscar, and Maidana failed. Plus, Floyd ain't no spring chicken. He's not going to be capable of countering enough, nor keeping the fight in the center of the ring long enough which is why Porter won't get the nod.
I like Thurman, potential is there, but if he fights Floyd it will be like Lara's fight with Angulo. That's not to say Thurman is down on Anguo's level, but it's too early for him to be in the ring with Floyd. Not only has he not earned it over more deserving fighters, he's also simply not ready. That old G Unit song with 50 on the hook just popped in my head thinking about the prospect of Thurman fighting Floyd. "You say you're ready, you're not ready, we don't shoot no one on ones........"
Floyd aint fighting Thurman or Porter in September...that date is going to be the rematch with Maidana because even though the numbers for the first fight was disappointing, Showtime has a ready made storyline (Maidana was robbed! Floyd was in danger for the first time in forever!) for the second fight and will assume that it will generate more buys.
Thurman and Porter need to be built up more before being ready for a PPV main event.
How many fights are left on the Showtime contract? Three?I agree.. cept Floyd aint fighting Thurman or Porter EVER... he not fighting Danny Garcia either because Danny dont wanna fight him real talk.. Definitely aint fighting Lara... He's gonna fight Maidana in September and he's gonna fight Khan next year (possibly Canelo if he wins. Doubt it though) then he retires

I am pretty certain Khan will be one of them.
I agree with all of this
I dont think Floyd will fight Thurman or Porter (especially not Porter because of the size, athleticism, strength, and speed he possesses), but I hope he wwill prove me wrong, because I'd love to see those fights.
Danny Garcia aint trying to get that work from Floyd....he's knows a Floyd loss will be something like a 11-1 or 12-0 loss where he will be embarrassed and severely outclassed. Only case I can remember of someone being GUARANTEED next in line for a career high payday against Floyd Mayweather, but instead wants to continue campaigning at a weight he can barely make these days to avoid the fight.
Lara is losing against Canelo, so he wont be fighting Floyd.
I got Floyd vs Maidana in September, Floyd vs Khan in May, and Floyd vs winner of Cotto/Martinez in September next year or Peter Quillin.
floyd vs quillin breh ...i cant even fathom a fight like that coming to fruition lol
Floyd will fight him for the Middleweight belt and can beat him, I believe. That's the ONLY reason I picked that fight and that opponent lol
Danny has never specifically stated that he didn't want to Floyd fight. What he and his pops Angel have continuously said is that they won't seek out/push for a Floyd fight. The decision is up to Floyd, and that's who they'll leave it up to. Which is essentially how Floyd operates. He's constantly stated a fight with him is like a lottery ticket, you just have to sit back and wait to see if your numbers called. If Danny gets called, great. But Danny has also stated he wants to keep building up his name and make his legacy. Which is smart. We've seen fighters fight Floyd early when their buzz is at it's highest, and then completely fizzle out afterwards (Ortiz, Guerrero)
Also Angel brought up another good point: It's essentially pointless push for a Mayweather fight. Because if they eventually fought and Danny somehow won, they would just say 'Oh, Danny caught Floyd when he was old". So Garcia wouldn't even get any credit for beating Floyd. Which is why they see no point in pushing for a Floyd fight
