There's an internal duality that exists within him , that I find hard to reconcile.

That's describing every human being. Lupe is a dope artist who is conflicted by how much heat he gets for having beliefs that go against the grain. He's a radical and radicals are rarely received by open arms, especially in a time where ignorance is celebrated.

been saying this for years. lupe is a fraud and all this rebel to america/revolutionary warrior is a gimmick. somebody called him out on how he was a gangster rapper back in the day signed to virgin records. some years later, he reemerges as this geeky, skateboarder, pseudo intellectual that is kicking something different during a time when 50 cent was popular.

dude thought that he was going to blow up off of that off of being different AND things didn't go his way. next thing you know, dude is switching his style up trying to sell records.
