the term "coolie" came from east Indian (Asian) slaves brought to the Caribbean islands during the slave trade

pretty much Indian people that are from the Caribbean are called "coolies" cause of that, even tho they aren't completely east Indian, we are still descendants from India and Asia

Naw, she was darker and prettier no offense. Imagine a black, dark skinned, Jessica Alba. They have the same type of hair though:ld:

google is your friend.

my knowledge = comes from me being indo-trini :yeshrug:

Indeed, google and youtube been my nikkaz for the longest. Aight so that means the actual Indians are coolies then and the mixed ones are douglas. Is this the case for most of the Caribbean or for islands that got bigger Indian populations? My bad for not just lookin this up, I'm lazy.

I think it's like that for the majority of the Caribbean Isles, I had a Haitian teacher in HS and he used to call me coolie and I had no idea that Haitian's knew that word so I asked him and he told me they had coolie's in Haiti too.

and a few years ago my coworker looked like a straight up Indian from India, and when I met dude he was a straight up Jamaican, had me like :ohhh: "I didn't even know there was Indian people in Jamaica"

so yeah I mean there's Indian descents from all them islands, I was just ignorant to it before I started reading up about it and asking more people about it :manny:

Shiiit, Jamaicans was how I found out about coolies and West Indians before I met an Indian Trini in middle school. When I was 6, my uncle had some business partners he knew from yaad and one of em happened to live in my apartment building so I was cool wit the family. The eldest and youngest sons looked black but the middle son had wavy hair and was way lighter, when I asked about it that's when they said they mom was coolie and I noticed she had wavy hair. So I ran with that from then on.

Always good to learn new shyt.
