First you have to figure out what you want your money to do for you before you figure out what to do with it.
If you're not interested in savings, then you can just buy crap with it. If you want to invest look at mutual funds. I don't have a lot of investing knowledge but mutual funds seem easier and you get to invest in a lot of companies at once vs if you just opted for single stock.

Put a down payment on a car and build your credit up. You can do/get anything in this country with good credit
Put some up in a CD... Some in a savings at another financial institution. Try and learn about the money market etc....Start small at first.

its like £17k a year for your first year in the air force in the uk. even less for the army.
17k in pounds is already 34k in dollars.
