But wait
Before we get into all this, YES I understand the chances of it ever getting the legitimacy of these official awards adopted by the league which is voted on by writers are VERY SLIM
But the players should use their leverage and at least add it to the next CBA for both to be recorded by the NBA.
HOWEVER THERE IS A PITFALL THEY MUST AVOID
Players must try their to NOT let their personal feelings of a certain player affect their vote. When you work in close quarters with people you get to know them and you could end up either loving them or hating them. You cant let that affect your perception of their accomplishments on the court/field. Surew WRITERS hold grudges too. If the players set their personal beefs and feelings aside and vote for who they believe is the most deserving of these awards there is no doubt in my mind that their winners will have more legitimacy than the ones voted by the writers because PLAYERS PLAY THE GAME.
Writers have beefs and hold them against players or try to spread the love too often. There were at least 2 or 3 other years Jordan should have been MVP but didnt get it. While I was in full support of Nash winning MVP, i didnt think he deserved both years. I despise the snitch #24 from the Lakers but i think he deserved it that year (i think) Dirk got it.
I'll put more stock in a surgeon who is voted best surgeon by his peers of surgeons over one voted best surgeon by the hospital staff which may include people that have never held a scalpel.
In my departments we're all engineers but we know who's top dog isnt necessarily our partners/customers favorite engineer to work with because so called top dog may be an a$$hole or unorganized or what we would call a "maverick"
