That’s what makes it good.
People complain about AAA games being safe but begrudge FF for continually changing it up.
I’ve never been blown away by a tales game. They are the most tropey and safe j rpgs out. If you like that you’ll probably think it’s an overall better franchise
I like the fact that each FF game is essentially a new ip even if I don’t love every entry
The tales and star ocean series had a chance to dethrone FF but has since let FF catch up to them in gameplay.

Star ocean never had a chance
Star Ocean has almost always been a very rough game with an amazing battle system. Tales is constantly better than it. Tales character interactions and skits are second to none. The battle systems are usually good too. It's just the story and antagonists that are usually mediocre.
