Democracy Now is pretty good. Very boring presentation at times, but they are definitely truthful.

I dunno, I just got a real old school idea about the news. My dad used to watch it a lot when I was a kid so I've always been used to the straight to the point type shyt, no yelling and screaming just the cold facts.

It'd be cool if HL had a news/debate show like TYT or DN.

The radio show is so depressing and it keeps black people thinking like victims.

I have to get a combination of both conservative and democratic radio so I can come to my own logical conclusion as a registered independent.

^ lol, well I dunno the news is pretty depressing in general. But I never get the feeling of a victim if anything I feel empowered by the fact that I'm actually being informed.

Exactly, mad props for this thread :tu:

I used to listen almost every day. DC area it would come on 89.3 immediately after the hour of real hip-hop. So the hip-hop drew me in, then democracy now would follow with the knowledge. I thought that was the point. Then they moved the times, then they stopped having democracy now be the follow up show :mjpls:

Now even the hip hop is hard to find. WFPW isn't what it used to be :(

It sure isn't, I pledged one year but I lost my job before I could pay it all.

But yeah they fell off bad, the jazz is still good tho. But they fell off on the Hip Hop tip, if they were smart they'd feature more Hip Hop, what I really miss is when they used to have that Roots Reggae block. That shyt defined my early childhood with my rasta unc and cousins.

If they were smart they'd take it back to the format you mentioned the real Hip Hop woulda drew in all the invading hipsters throughout the city to tune in and pledge.

Anytime a black person is on that show they're either complining like a powerless victim or going along to get along.

I stopped listening once I realized the target demographic was to complicated.

And they were ALWAYS asking for money.

Depending on the subject they inform you on what they want you to know.its best to hear both sides then decide b/c each party has their own agenda.

I remember they had them kids from Georgia that were integrating their prom so that's a positive story. But I dunno, I suppose we just see it two different ways. I never looked at it as black people complaining or whatever they just speaking on the things that are hardly being spoken on. Its a lot of fukked up shyt goin on in the world, not just with black people, but they have positive and negative stories. So should people not discuss the Prison Industrial Complex or fukked up conditions in prison? Its good to have dialogue on things that don't get much attention.

And asking for money is because its independently owned. Its no different than having a membership pledge with public television, in fact its pretty much the same thing. And it counts as a tax write off. But most Americans view community or social economics with some suspicious eye as if they tryna swindle you. Nothing wrong with citizens collectively contributing to some shyt, we pay taxes to a government thats on some fukk shyt but no one dares to question it. Doesn't make sense to me to suddenly say "Well, no way I'll give you small increments of my money simply because I am an active viewer. Who made yall the gubmint" :mjpls:

Your right on one thing tho, its good to get info from both sides.

Real Talk, it NEVER made any sense to me why they would limit themselves to just one hour of hip-hop. Then 2days out the week the show would be more talking than music  I enjoyed them, but not MORE than the music. The Hollaback show or whatever it was called.
It was a 1-2 punch, then they'd have there lil musical intro to Democracy Now and it gave you the news unfiltered in ways the established media would NEVER tell it.

What time does the show even come on now? Either shows?
Ok, I'm looking right now via "Tune-in Radio" and it has listing on it
DN comes on at 8am and 5pm. Free-speech radio at 12am, not sure if that is any good or not??? Thats all it shows on the lineup :damn:

I haven't listened as much as I did a few years ago cuz in those years I was in a car all day so I could listen to the radio more. But there used to be some good shows, Africa Now, We Are Still Not Free, etc etc, a lot of that Pro Black/Black Nationalist/Pan Africanist type shyt. I think they ended up changing the format a lot after moving their studios cuz when I listened to it again one day I heard a lot of callers complaining about problems with the station.

But yeah, they play DN live at 8 then again in the afternoon I ain't know they moved it to 5 it used to be 6.

Democracy is great because it keeps the masses happy(for the most part). But it can also be one of the most inefficient form of government.
What makes everybody happy is not necessarily good for everybody. :manny:
