I forgot how tedious making a long thread can be when I'm using mobile. I'll try to make my points very brief.
FIRST. Nothing that I say is new. I'm actually adapting something that could be outdated but I want to at least put out the history.
Second, I don't guarantee the success of this formula since black people from all regions are their own people and we all seem pretty comfortable with where we are, generally.
Now the agenda:
INNOVATION
IMPORTS
MEDIA
Very easy to say these words but not easy to execute. These are just a few of the subjects that a man named Park Chung Hee, South Korea's third president/dictator instilled in his people.
For more information about that, because SK's success is seen as the prototype for the transformation of underdeveloped countries, look up "Miracle on the Han River" or watch
I will only focus on black Americans for now since we are in a very unique situation. Our country is already developed and any success gained will not be exclusive to black people because we are not the only ethnic group in the country.
We need more innovation within our community. We need a new generation of CJ Walkers, Garrett Morgans, George W Carvers, ect. Elon is hanging out with Trump for a reason and it's not because of his personality. I'm not saying we should want to hang out with Trump or any president for that matter, I'm just saying there is a very good reason why Elon has gotten his way for a long time.
The idea of imports are more important for countries that don't have their own car brands like Jamaica. They have the island cruiser but....what is that? They need to manufacture their own line of vans, hybrids and motorbikes. They need to renegotiate their deals with China and offer their own imports instead of GDP that can't keep up with the cost of China's infrastructure labor.
Anyway.
MEDIA. Do you like kimchi? Korean fried chicken? Kpot? Why and how do you even know about it? It's no secret that Korea's cuisines has gotten extremely popular in the US. The demand has steadily risen as their cuisine became more familiar in kdramas or popular TV shows where a known artist is munching on a traditional food item.
Let me tell you, this has China WORRIED. I can't explain it without going into my fifteen years of consuming all types of Asian media (this includes SEA and we'll get to them in a minute). But just know that China and Korea are always beefing about which foods, clothing, arts and traditions originated in which country. Fascinating stuff.
Back to media, image is key. Our image is in the pits of hell right now in all manner of media. Our music, our social media, the movies we put out, and lastly, most damaging, our reality TV content. None of this has to go away, per se, not that it ever could at this point. It's a part of who we are. Yes, that means even Baddies Carribeans is as much as part of our culture at the moment than the electric slide done at weddings.
It thrives for a reason. Now where is the balance? Where are the boy groups serenading suggestively? Where are the girl groups singing about their crushes in a shy way? Where they at?
I know what I personally want to see. A thirteen member all black girl group with TALENT that sings and raps pop/RnB subjects that doesn't include cursing, extreme twerking, fighting or drug use.
Mr. Lamar, or to anyone with the resources, if you somehow come across this post please invest, produce, and promote a black girl group. America needs a black girl group to save the black youth with inspirational music and dances. You can recruit on Instagram, tik tok, and host auditions. There are plenty of talented black girls that want to be kpop idols but they don't need to go where they're unwanted, they can be successful state side and they can be pushed to be global stars through hard work, talent, good music and mostly good promotion. This can only work if the person promoting them already has a network to other huge brands like Coachella, the Met Gala, ect.
Anyway, I don't have time to touch on this now in depth at the moment so I'll add more later. I still need to talk about SEA to provide more context to EA's success.
To be continued...
