NBA.com - Basketball U on Assists

An assist is a pass that directly leads to a basket. This can be a pass to the low post that leads to a direct score, a long pass for a layup, a fast break pass to a teammate for a layup, and/or a pass that results in an open perimeter shot for a teammate. In basketball, an assist is awarded only if, in the judgement of the statistician, the last player's pass contributed directly to a made basket. An assist can be awarded for a basket scored after the ball has been dribbled if the player's pass led to the field goal being made.

I'm more concerned about him passing off his eye test lists as actual stats:scust:

You coming up with new stupid ways to argue everyday nikka. The assister has to create the opportunity you somehow saying rondo is not creating the opportunity but somehow getting awarded the assist how does that work explain to us since you here goofy.
:merchant:

I'm not saying he doesn't create opportunities for his players fullstop, I'm saying he gets assists attributed to him where he basically has little-to-no influence when a player scores.

@Greenstrings

- check the tape.

A good portion of those baskets made - that were accredited to him as assisting - he basically had no impact at all or very minimal that it was basically just an act of passing the ball. And you wonder why I say his box scores #s aren't a accurate reflection of his impact.

:manny:

The most obvious one is at 4.06sec - Rondo passes it to Turner out on the perimeter, Turner faces up and takes DeMarre off the dribble away from the basket (dribbles it TWICE towards the baseline) and gets cut off and hits a tough jumper over him.

He's referring to Rondo and the nikka doesn't even know how assists are awarded but yet is using this logic just to argue about nonsense. It's like the dude doesn't even know once a player takes a few dribbles there is no assist opportunity. How do you not win wpoty based off the strength of this post alone.

19 secs on YT clip and 10.37 (1st quarter) on the game clock - Green dribbles twice on the low block and spins and finishes - Rondo gets the assist
4.06 secs on YT clip and 3.09 (4th quarter) on the game clock - Turner dribbles twice away from the basket and hits jumper - Rondo gets the assist

Care to explain Rondo getting assists for players creating their own shot and dribbling twice @No..Money..Mo..Problems, after you specifically said 'once a player takes a few dribbles there's no assist opportunity'? :mjpls:

He didn't state it correctly but my man Rondo ain't creating lanes like he's Teague. He runs the offense, passes the rock, they dribble and shoot. It's not like their getting offense created like CP3.
I did state it correctly, I just didn't elaborate because jaguar paw knew what I was talking about. :francis:

It's up to the scorekeeper(s) on what they deem an assist - although every player gets an assist once in a while that actually by the definition isn't an assist - pass-first PGs who dominate the ball and look to pass more than shoot have more opportunities to get them. Rondo gets them pretty much every game.

speaking of assist, a long time ago i remember someone saying that John Stockton would pass someone the ball they'd take like 4 dribbles 2 steps and hit a layup and the Utah statistician would still give him an assist. I was like :ohhh:
