The reason he needed Dunn was for an epic life defining duel with the hero, and Glass as the bad guy. He needed a purpose, of identity and self identification, that there was a reason for his existence. It explores the psychology of superheroes, in a even handed way. It's what is missing from all the DC/WB whatever comic book movies.

It tied into the visual narrative of the film, I got this from somewhere else but there is a large theme of reflections in the film. Mr. Glass birth is a reflection, his first scene with his mom is a reflection, there are other scenes where characters talk to each other through reflections, and many characters are framed in ways that depict them in opposing manners. Even the visual style relates to how the story is told

I'll watch again, didn't catch that when I was watching years ago.

I watched Split and Glass last week.

Split was great, I already knew the twist as the internet spoiled it years ago but it doesn't matter. It was a really good super villain movie presented as a horror movie. I really like the realism aspect of these movies because it makes you think the whole time. The whole movie builds up to the appearance of The Beast.

The realism aspect of these movies carry them because the whole time you are wondering if you are looking at a crazy guy or someone with superpowers. Kevin in this movie kidnaps privileged high school girls, he is constantly switching between personalities, he keeps them in some sort of underground bunker, there is a lot of evidence to where they just ran into someone who is off the rails.

It keeps you in with the description of the beast. If I remember right he describes the beast as taller than the regular man, with really long fingers, the ability to crawl on walls, I think he says the beast eats people too.

After a good build up of the arrival of The Beast, he finally shows up and like Unbreakable its very muted. The Beast is still a human but hes veined up like Majin Vegeta, he can crawl on walls and it does look like he eats people. He also survived 2 shotgun blasts and slightly bent steel.

Another subversion of comic flicks where the villain is not some extremely evil genius or some unstoppable force. However someone who you could see existing in this world but being an urban legend, never sure if its real or not.

Another amazing Superhero movie and it joins Unbreakable as 1 of the 2 good origin movies.

Glass, was a weird movie. I'm not sure if this was an average film or a film that will be seen as great in like 10 years just like unbreakable. I've been thinking about this one the most so its probably the best one I just haven't realized it yet. It seemed like it was trying to tell a lot of stories but it both told and didn't tell them in the story.

The realism aspect once again makes these movies. The villains of this movie are the literal Illuminati conspiracy theory I remember being into from 2007-2014. The Conspiracy theory is that there are a group of hidden elites who use imagery and your weaknesses to control you and deny you (humanity) your full potential. They do this because they wouldn't be elite. So the villainous plot is not something outlandish but an actual conspiracy theory from our real world.

I loved the message of you are what you believe you are, the experiments whole purpose was to convince them that they are regular. Even the beast, who thinks they are the next step in human evolution, started to doubt itself because of the organization. It wasn't until the 3rd act when everyone started to believe in themselves once they started seeing their place, do their powers resurface.

The subversion aspect comes again in the "climax" of the film, they set it up to finally show off everything both The Beast and David can do, show the world how smart Mr. Glass really is as he debuts super humans. What we get is much tamer, we see another "somewhat superhuman" fight with David and The Beast, and then every superhuman dies. The bulletproof Beast gets shot, and Super Strong David gets his ass WHOOPED by regular humans and they drown him. Mr Glass lives up to his name and gets shattered to death. In the end Mr. Glass is shown to be both the hero and villain of the story by being a mass murderer but also revealing to the world that many of them are better than they believe.

The actual plot of the movie was kind of boring, but whatever. James McAvoy made this film and Split with amazing acting, one thing I forgot to add about Split that was good and shows up here as well is the fact that the internal conflict of Kevin is easily understandable because is acting was so good it made it feel like different people with different motives.

In the end of the day possibly the most creative super hero franchise in the sea of superhero movies. Its grounded but it doesn't feel weak or unimportant. No superpowers feel OP or even exaggerated, no one was knocking down buildings, no one was shooting lasers, even regular criminals make sense in this universe as they can still kill regular people. I like the message of belief in yourself that carries across the three films and all of them have great cinematography with the GOAT possibly being Unbreakable. I slept on this series but I think it was best after some superhero fatigue.

Glass was embarrassing though.
That shyt was terrible. Split was obviously forced to be connected to Unbreakable and Glass was just an attempt my M Knight to bring himself back from the dumps for good. But he failed and made a bland af flick. Didn't help Bruce Willis seemed as interested in acting as I am watching paint dry.

The unbreakable sequel should have happened years ago.
