I'm at work and can't really listen to what she's saying. Can someone explain what she's saying about it corrupting Thurman? That's a heck of a statement to make.
She is not talking about Thurman specifically.

Duva says that Haymon is smart, but that doesn't mean he knows how to promote and make money in boxing (he has only ever promoted one show in 15 years).

Compared PBC to the Revel hotel. It was built with a lot of money, but is not being built in the way to get a return on the investment. His TV presentation is fine. But he is overpaying for fighters, overpaying for marketing and not getting revenue back in return. Ticket sales have not been good, financially he needs to ask more for tickets but people won't pay for it, so you have to ask less, which comprises your business. He then needs advertising money in return, but is not getting that either. She said that with the cost of his shows, he would need NFL level advertising slot payments and that is never feasible. He should probably expect wrestling advertising dollars, which is the lowest of prime time sports.

When you look at the UFC, their regular TV shows don't make money and the UFC is happy when they break even. The UFC largely finances itself via PPV's. Boxing PPV's work differently. In the UFC fighters get 9% of revenue. In boxing fighters get 50-60% of revenue and in the case of Mayweather-Pacquiao, 80%. That doesn't leave enough money to make money on PPV's to cover losses elsewhere.

Uses Keith Thurman as a general example because she was interviewed at the card he headlined. Said that Thurman-Guerrero was a perfectly fine fight. But look at what Thurman (and others) where paid. If he was paid that for Guerrero he will want that vs. all opponents, want even more vs. better opponents, and if the model starts to fail and you cannot continue to pay what she believes is over inflated purses, how will you get him (and others) to take less?

She believes that PBC is going to create something in the boxing world like the housing financial crisis. He is overpaying and oversaturating the market, not getting enough money in return, and eventually it has to balance out and boxing will suffer in the long term.

She compares herself to the book "Blink". Experts in the industry know things sometimes that smart analysts dont. Her experience in the industry tells her this won't work. It can work, but not the way Haymon is going about it right now.

Does not believe PBC will control the entirety of boxing. It is too difficult to do in a worldwide sport to have one entity control everything. She is constantly asked by fighters for her company to promote their careers. It takes talent to go out and find the right fighters.

Thanks for the synopsis...She is bitter and crabby as fukk but she does make valid points that have even been rbought up here a few times.
The model that Allah Haymon is creating has a lot of unanswered questions to it and we won't really know if PBC is successful until he can stop being akin to an infomercial and actually get the networks and advertisers to pay him for his product.

in order to do that he would have to tighten up on his quality of his cards on top of his main fighters that he's been using to market this not showing struggle..only keith so far is showing and proving

What about showtime? What about Beterbeast? What about Berto? Why the broad-spectrum low key hatred Patrick?

your stars are but dust on my shoes
Interesting insight :ehh:

You can't pay fighters like Haymon is if they're not selling tickets and ad time. Haymon and the PBC have inflated fighters pay, so unless the PBC starts generating revenue, the entire system set up by Haymon will collapse; fighters won't accept lower purses, PBC won't be able to meet their expectations, they go under and the system collapses.

Duva is talking some basic economics.

Haymon studied econ at HARVARD.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess he's thought this out much further than Duva thinks.:patrice:

For the sake of boxing I really want the PBC to succeed. But Haymon already seems to have a lot stacked against him.:wow:
