Yeah but dude said he just got laid off...He's probably just trying to survive at this point..

I have two degrees and my wife has a decent job...But if I got laid off I'd clean carpet to help keep things a float...We come from a generation where a lot of our fathers and grandparents did blue collar jobs and were able to own homes or send their kids to college..

I'm just sayin.. Maybe he gains experiance and takes what he learns from Sears and opens his own carpet cleaning business...Then he'd have the chance to be balling more than all of us..The most "glamorous" jobs aren't always the best..

:manny:
:shaq2: you need more than 4 days, The job stinks and lets be real a dead end one, best that he find a better job before he got comfortable at Sears and wasted his potential away.

:whoa:

Obviously it's better than doing nothing, but whats wrong with trying to get a better job?

What makes you think he did not look for a better job before he took the job at Sears?

During this economy people are just happy to have a job. A job is better than not having a job without benefits. A lot of these types of jobs teach you work ethic, responsibility, teamwork, money management, etc.

To the OP, just remember everything happens for a reason and a new door will open every time a door is closed.

Sears is not one of the places you mentioned, they don't teach shyt, Op sounds like a grown man going through a bad patch, he needs a real job. These bum ass retail jobs are meat grinders, do you honestly believe that putting carpet tech on a resume would lead to a better job? I know people who work there and i met a so called legendary manager who had been there for years, guy could barely read, no joking, guy works at pizza hut now because last Christmas, the whole company under performed and he took the ax.

Maybe? You never know because this world revolves around networking. I never said working at Sears would help him get a better job. I said working at Sears is better than not having a job and getting unemployment, when he is physically able to work. What if he actually stayed with Sears for a while and acquired some skills and knowledge to get another job at a better company that does carpets, ducks, windows, etc?

Real job? What's a real job? Making 100K a year? There is a difference between a job and career. Know the difference.

I bet you the OP was not going to stay there for too long until he found a better job. Nothing wrong with being a productive member of society and working a job while looking for a better job.

I meant he could he just post on craigslist offering the same services that he was doing at Sears, he could rent a vac and get paid more, being productive while looking for something better, you are right better than doing nothing but retail kills skills not developed them. OP could you have networked with any of the workers there? Where there any skills you could have learned while being there?
