Now we had some good ones in The Dark Knight and The Avengers, and even these are a tad bit overrated, but man it would be a thing of joy to see that good ole science fiction make a comeback.

Many of these comic book films are just pulp entertainment. If you think there was any real depth in Avengers, you need to step your movie game up. If cliche entertainment is all you want, then do you.
Alien had a lot of detail (that was absent in the weak, James Cameron-directed sequels.) Ridley Scott made 2 of the best sci-fi films of the last few decades between Alien and Blade Runner, so even if Prometheus isn't genre-defining, it will probably be better than pretty much any other summer movie this year and rank as one of the better hollywood releases of the year.
