Game last night was
That's how I envisioned the offense running when we made all those signings over summer. I thought Kaep did a great job of putting the ball where the receivers could get it and get YAC. Also thought the coaching staff did a
brilliant job of game planning and putting Kaep in winnable situations.
You can tell that the Bears thought, along with everybody else, that the Niners would come in and try to protect Kaep by running, running, running. Instead, they threw out of running formations early and often. They gave Kaep free reign to make audibles and changes at the line.
I think our first offense play from scrimmage set the tone, with the pass to Manningham. That right there let everybody know that we weren't just going to sit back and hand the ball off all game. I think Kaep only had 1 designed qb scramble, too.
He looked good in the pocket and looked to be a passer first. I also thought he avoided 3-4 sacks by moving, where as Alex would've just taken the sacks. The one in particular that comes to mind is in the third quarter I believe when the Bears blitzed right up the middle and Kaep fired a pass to Vernon. That's a pass Alex would never make, for better or worse.
It was good to see Vernon back involved in the offense. I liked how the ball was spread around. Kaep missed on 2 passes that could've been Touchdowns, but he had a great 1st game.
Going forward to New Orleans, I'm pretty sure if Alex is cleared to play he'll start. Kaep did exactly what a backup qb was supposed to do. I still think Alex gives us the best chance to get to the Superbowl, but it'll be interesting to see if the coaching staff tries to incorporate Kaep more into the offense now or if they just let it ride.
