Depends on how you define aid?

Things they supplant local industries like textiles, agriculture, etc. are harmful.

However, medical services, loans that are used for development, investments, can help. Just ask recipients of the Marshall Plan and Japan after WW2.

Just heard a story yesterday about some of the effects of the USAID funding removals in parts of the world where medical care was being provided because there was absolutely none there before. That's useful aid. Same thing with providing retroviral medications. In this same story, they talked about a woman who was HIV positive who received medication through this program and was literally begging an aid worker for them to provide her enough medication for just 18 months to see her son graduate and she will be OK with dying afterwards. They couldn't help her. That's useful aid.

Interesting. I think some countries like you said received “aid” /funds / loans to develop like Israel, Europe, and Japan. I guess it’s based on the conditions of the money and how it’s to be used

“It’s their money. They decide who gets it!” :ohhh:

Japan became a leading tech country in the 80s and 90s from US aid. This a dumb ass quote tbh.

“African nations have received aid under different circumstances, often tied to poverty alleviation, infrastructure, and governance reforms. Aid to Africa has historically shifted from infrastructure-focused projects in the 1960s to poverty-focused programs in later decades. Unlike Japan’s postwar aid, African nations often face conditions such as structural adjustment programs emphasizing free-market policies and reduced government spending. These terms differ significantly from those applied to Japan’s recovery efforts.”
