You hated LotR with a vengeance? *decides to ignore this guy from now on*

:dwillhuh:
Boy do you have another thing coming once you dabble a little bit in the LotR verse. All the evil "men" are made up of cardboard cut outs of Persians, Indians, Arabs, Turks, Africans and Afghans. Tolkien was on another level of Eurocentric racism.
He was born in 1892 breh of course he was gonna be racist, the stories are still good tho

Lord of the rings is a trilogy of novels. JRR Tolkien began writing the fellowship of the ring in 1937 and he was an oxford english professor. This is why there are no black characters :heh:

So you sidestep the whole movies were made 10 years ago..... :shaq2:

ohh, are you saying Peter Jackson should've added in random black people to the story just so there were some in the movie?

Dude they were like 3,000 people on screen with no men/women of color. Could have been foot soldiers etc.... it made too much money to be white washed. It's not a historic film, it's a damn made up Fantasy series.

lol, yeah, I don't see why there couldn't be a black rider of rohan or something. I haven't ever really looked for any black extras while watching, is there seriously NONE?

I have had some stoned movie experiences where I'm sitting in the previews like :damn: all these movies seem to be marketed solely to white people.

It's hard for me to understand those feelings since I've been a sheltered suburban CAC all my life.

Is there seriously not one black person in lotr?

Anyway, found this

Obviously, there are no blacks in the land of Middle Earth and it's stories because it is derived entirely of Anglo-saxen (which Tolkein was a proffessor of at Oxford University) Celtic, and Norse lore which were all of the white race.

You see, the entire world of Middle Earth is based upon the mythology of these, and so it would be absurded to add a black character to the story. Middle Earth is, as a fantasy, supposed to be Europe, or more specificaly England, tens of thousands of years ago in a time that was lost and unknown to us - a place of lore and magic.

All of the characters in the book are English folk, and English culture is throughout it.

Imagine a fantasy written about the ancient history of Africa, it's people, and it's culture. Would you expect any whites to be there? Of course not. The same goes for The Lord of the Rings.

I assure you, it has nothing to do with racism or the ideals of discrimination very common in Tolkein's time. Any who suggest it know nothing of The Lord of the Rings.
