You'll have to compete with a lot of other channels though. If I enter "Apple Watch Review" I'll get a thousand options, but if I enter "Vintage Rolex Datejust Watch Review", I'll see only a few channels dedicated to that (and I choose that example because my co-worker searched for just that topic the other day, found one guy talking about them and immediately joined his 61K followers.) I imagine there are at least 50K people that would be interested in pretty much any given topic.
You're limiting your overall audience and content because you're a niche channel. And people interested in the content on your channel probably watch the same stuff on multiple channels. There isn't a limit to people you can subscribe to so I don't what you mean by "competing".

By competing breh most likely means overall viewership.
There's usually a top dog like Pew Die Pie or Physiques of Greatness which generally
gets the lionshare of views within their given niche, no matter how large the channel is.
Then the amount of views a person can garner within that niche can only get so large.

Besides a channel can diversify after the fact to expand their audience.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
The only YouTuber I went down the video rabbit hole was Angry Video Game Nerd. That one dude that would play and review old games. Dude had me :dead:

Only reason I checked him out was because a friend showed me some of his vids. I check out HISHE’s channel, but they ain’t all up in the video.

I found AVGN shortly after he reviewed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. I'll get subscribed to a YouTuber for many years and then get tired of them after awhile. When I first watched Nostalgia Critic he was the best thing on the site and now I'm not even subscribed to Channel Awesome anymore and whenever one of his videos pops up I always click the "Not Interested" button. I recently got that way with ScreenJunkies and I'm starting to get that way with people like Stuckmann, Jeremy Jahns, and RedLetterMedia. I think only Spill/Double Toasted are the only YouTubers I've been able to keep up.

Isn't this the equivalent of saying "We need to stop saying 'British celebrity' because I don't know any of those people"?
