This is what I'm thinking, if anything all the internet protests is just giving the author publicity. The author could use words like "controversial", "hot" or "popular" (and yes, if it's being talked about negative or positive, it's popular) to sell the book. She doesn't have to pay for the publicity, it's coming for free.
