And imma tell ya something OP, eam tho I'm lucky enough to be living mah dream...dat issue of being da "token" is in A LOT of fields. Not just corporate settings.

Eam wit dis art shyt, specially at da professional level, we are scarce like a mufukka, fam. I've stated dis before but da art school I graduated from it was only SIX of us out of 300 plus. All brothas, no females. Mah class in general was da biggest da school had up to dat point too. We started off wit around 11 of us and nikkas was dropping like flies as da 4 years progressed whether it be because of financial issues or whatever. Point being...SIX...out of THREE HUNDRED mah nikka. :usure:

And eam tho its art and folks are more accepting n tolerant because we are using a common tongue to communicate and share life experiences n all dat jazz...if you are really talented AND you a brotha...Bess belee you gone catch a couple of dem :mjpls: at times. Lol I peeped game mah freshman year when I was coming through crushing buildings folks thought DEY had on lock. And I had already kinda knew what time it was wit dat because growing up in da Chi moms had me in all kinds of art programs for kids and I was usually dat "token". But again, I didn't really fully undastand till I went off to school.

And having worked in da field for a good 7-8 years now...I'm STILL 9/10 dat "token". Dis field is majority White and Asians. Wit a few other ethnicities sprinkled here n dere. I got kind of an exotic name and am a red nikka so I may not get dat :mjpls: right away but I can see a lil bit of it pop up n go back down like a prairie dog when I see folks reaction once dey have an actual face to go along wit dat work. :mjpls:

But again, if your game is on point and your skills are :whoo: (including ya mouf piece), dat resistance is futile. :wow:

Keep ya head up n see da storm through, cuh. :salute:

Breh, I agree with all you've said. Since I have become more concious, worked in the family business, really began to take a look at racial relations and became more aware. It's harder to deal with. The worst type of racism and discrimination is the subtle kind, the kind you can only see but it's hard to put in words.

I'm saving HARD CORE ATM and just need to decide what I actually want to do with my savings. :lupe:

Yeah, once you get to that certain level of a corporate job, this is the type of racisim that you see. At my job, this is the type of racisim I deal with...well use to...I got this white dude fired in such a despicable flamboyant brazen way that at least for now most white people are scared to even look at me...assuming i go to the office...which i never do...

whoops going on a rant...

but anyway, that subtle racism...that is what let me know that if you are black, or a minority period, unless you just submit to some c00ning shyt there is a glass ceiling for you...

and the weird thing is...i've seen it where it was just like...instinct...it's just embedded in their mind to exclude / downtalk / treat minorities different

I can imagine that shyt getting SUPER racist in IB...because a white man won't trust anybody else with his money but a white man...and a man of another race treats the white lifestyle as the holy grail...so he probably only wants a white man to...probably looks at it as an insult to have a non white man handling his money...

I got ya rep when I'm off 40s...the art/creative world is polarizing for black people in general from my experiences...I'll have to divulge more about it later on.

I absolutely hate this....

This reminds me of the time I was working as an engineer at HP...was in the lab, and myself and this other dude new we were going to have to run wires that day...so we dressed super bummy...I mean we were in the lab in sweatpants and old faded pullovers we probably washed our cars in or some shyt...so we had moved to a new building...movers came to move the systems, mostly black...

Man, the entire time I was in the lab...these black dudes kept coming over to me like "what you doing we need to move this box to room so and so"

Meanwhile this white dude is next to me dressed just as bummy and these dudes never once asked him to do anything

Somehow the black dudes never thought for one moment that he worked with the moving company...somehow they could tell even though he was dressed like a homeless man, he was not a lowly mover like they were

But I just had to be a mover though...

Had to tell them dudes about a dozen times that day "i'm an engineer I work at HP you going to have to ask someone else where that system goes"

They would come up to me and be like "he can you give us a hand doing blah blah blah" and I got a cisco switch tucked under my arm, a console switch in my right hand, about a dozen 50 ft ethernet cables on my shoulder... and I'm just looking at them like :dahellwhat:...white dude next to me steady working with no one asking him anything...

Then, they started to flip it like i was some c00n ass nikka who wouldn't help them...they pass by looking at me like :rudyasmith:

Just sad that a black man, can't even envision another black man, as being smart enough to be in a lab and not be one of the people hired to just move shyt around

Especially being black in a corporate job...you wanna see more people like yourself to make you not feel alone.

It sucks working those positions and the only other blacks there are in the mailroom, or in the cafeteria serving food or as janitors.

This.. Im the only black person on my team.. Theres one other but he 's 73yrs old. Ive stated this before on here Im extremely bored at my job. I work with some pretty nice people dont get me wrong But they are all from India( They love exposing me to their culture ). and alot of things we just dont relate on. The only time they've ever talked about basketball is when Jeramy Lin was hot.. lol

But all the security guards are black, 95% of the warehouse staff is black and the janitor is black.
But at the end of the day, I cant be ungrateful tho. I just wish i had another brotha/sista there to relate too..

This is a rant so pardon my incoherence

I'm sitting outside my office building on a break I have to write this because my life fukking sucks right now. I work at an investment bank, a very big one (JP,UBS etc)

I have a BSc, MSci and I'm CFA level two educated. I recently got hired as an associate in January. I was previously an analyst where I had little exposure and now I have my own work and serious contact with clients the reality of this is all hitting.

I left my old finance job to work in the family business for 18 months and honestly nothing will compare to working for yourself but I needed to get back to work. Working for family good but was only to help out.

Investment Banking is the worst job ive ever had. I've worked in call centres during college, retail, being a waiter but no job has made has been as ridiculous as IB.

1. It's not diverse. All the IB firms do all this affirmative action and equal opportunity big talk to make it SEEM like they're diverse but it's B.S check the directory of every main IB firm. There's like 4 black people per 100 whites.

They like EVERYONE but blacks. The tipping point was this week. I've been working with a black charity which helps place black kids in Wall Street bank internships. These kids are smart, have experience and we spend months prepping them interviews. Only one of them secured a role.

Mean while I have this new intern shadowing me today he is dumb as a brick and lacks basic common sense and he is somehow there.

I've been observing that in every division there's the same pattern (2 black men, 2 black women and that's it). I'm pretty certain they're only there to fill a quota. :beli: and legalities

You spend your days working with literally people like Don Sterling ALL my clients I'm working with on deals are ALL senile and old and you can tell the ones who don't wanna be doing business with a black dude

Last week I had to go Vienna for a day to meet a new client and you should have seen his face when I walked in :beli:

To top it all off I interviewed a black girl from another division who was great a few weeks ago and our M.D said she wouldn't be a good 'fit' meanwhile they hired some random blonde chick :dahell:

The only good thing about people a black investment banker is the money but how much is it really worth though. Yes, I earn a lot but at what cost ?!

Oh and I finally get why people like @Poitier and @marcuz hate bed wenches so much. Black women are literally not rated AT ALL as in AT ALL by our clients (CFO's CEOs etc) while all the white VPs get to travel our black female VP rarely gets to travel ever. They don't see her as a 'face' for the firm.

I just think people need to stop pretending n saying the 'black boys need to study and go college''we just need to work 10 times harder'

All that 'you gotta work twice as hard' shyt our parents told us was LIES. :wow:

It's nothing to do with your degree, your presentation these people are always gonna operate the one at a time rule

:wow:

I hate being an investment banker and Ill advise all black males to run away from this life path.

I
wanna go back to family business but pay isn't enough :to: I miss being my own boss :sadcam:

This life is a lie breh's I went through college did all the things people claim black men should do and I'm still no better off :banderas:

Education and Liberation are 2 different things my brother....Tell your seeds to have more respect for the latter

That ' cism is everywhere in the corporate world breh, just maintain a good understanding of why cacs cac - it'll give you peace of mind. Understand their fear and know from jump they ALL have it, albeit to different degrees.

Your rep is everything so just get into work to do work and don't get involved in the personal bullshyt, and no matter what don't trust anybody- it's easier if you don't stay in the same role for anything longer than 18 months and keep it moving upwards.

Just like hustling in the street, have an escape route you work towards (probably will need a few before 1 succeeds)

This is not ground breaking info but you have to constantly remind yourself of this shyt to maintain your sanity. Some may think this sounds like paranoia :yeshrug:but it is what it is and just remember u have a life outside of work.

Investment banking is one of those careers than could triple your work related stress. Maintain healthy diet and regular exercise, it'll help with the stress and you won't get heated at things that you normally wouldn't give a fukk about.

Either that or do a lot of coke and party hard with whatever little free time u have like most investment bankers seem to do :drunk::thumbsup:

The outer limits
This is why they say get involved with something that you love...no matter what you do in life, having a "job" will take some joy out of it..especially these cacs.

Just some advice, your only weapon in all of this is "doing" better...that's your only weapon breh. While them cacs are out there getting at them bed wenches, you better be out in them streets making deals, studying, grinding. We don't have the luxury of taking time off b. If you truly want to be successful in white America you have two options...either c00n or work 200 times as hard as everyone else. I don't c00n.

my ciccas always wonder why I have the pissed off face sometimes..I just reply with, "work". I literally be tired b, but I love what I do so it's a win.

Plus I love proving to people that I'm better then them..

There's some hidden truth in that post, even if folks might not want to see. Banking is still largely the old boys group. If you're black, you're either going to be kissing a lot of ass to make them moves or you will be upright and seen as a bad fit. Folks really want you to scrap out here. Doubly worse for black women.

That's why I respect folks like LeBron, starting up businesses giving established black folks a chance to earn a place in the work force.
no black wealth = no black bankers

Some people gotta do one or the other.

Its not going to be easy.
