Negged for disrespecting your parents creation. If my daughter said this, i'd make it point to show her how much better she got it than 90% of the people on earth.

You're negging me for a two year old thread? :dahell:

And honestly, that approach is only a band-aid. You're not addressing the root issue. You're actually marginalizing it, something she will resent if you continue doing it. The "other people have it worse" has a VERY limited shelf life. It is also dependent upon a rational mind, something that isn't guaranteed in the chronically depressed.

But, you know, that's just like MY opinion man.

so pick another job and see what happens

Here's the bottom of the bottom line

There is much joy to be had in this world. Sometimes its not right on your porch so you may have to look for it a little. Or alot

Pick another job? This is the best job I've had yet. I'm not going to resign so I can smoke weed.

But you're right about the joy aspect. I'll explore that idea.

A better job. I think I made a similar thread almost a year later. This was the beginning of a slide that culminated with a rock bottom in the fall/winter of 2018.

I still have my moments, as recently as last week, but I don't HATE being alive.

Do you find a lot of your distressing thoughts fall into these cognitive distortions?

15 Common Cognitive Distortions

Feeling Good by Dr. David Burns explains in more detail, but he is from the school of thought that a lot of depression and anxiety is from distorted thinking.

For example, "things will never get better" (fortune telling, magnifying problems), "I always fukk things up" (negative filter, ignoring all the good things you do. Overgeneralization).

I don't think recognizing that some of your thoughts are distorted automatically fixes everything, but it seems helpful to recognize that your distressing thoughts are likely at least somewhat distorted. Not that you can't have distressing thoughts for valid reasons or you should always think purely positively in objectively bad situations, but rather you shouldn't add distortions to thoughts.

I'm sincerely glad for you. Keep this memory close to you so that you know, that whatever you go through in the future, it absolutely CAN get better, just like you proved it. You're tough as hell.

shyt is real out here people.

You never know what's going on in ppl's minds/lives. Just telling someone "well you don't have it that bad" is a waste of time. From what I've seen, a lot of times when people are depressed etc it's related to their inability (or unwillingness) to be honest with themselves about the source of their pain/dissatisfaction etc. Once someone is honest about what's causing their problem, then so long as their desire to address that problem is genuine, theyre much more likely to emerge in a better place. This goes for any type of problem/conflict you may have. Couples fight all the time over sex, when deep down inside the real underlying issue may be financial difficulties or a lack of trust.

Another thing is that everyone should have something (ppl used to call them hobbies lol) that they genuinely enjoy doing by themselves. Something that you do not b/c you expect some financial reward or recognition but bc you literally enjoy the process/experience.

I got negged today for this old ass thread. I thought this was my suicide thread but this was actually the start of what led me down that path. The holidays are always a shytty time in my life.

@Rarely-Wrong Liggins glad to hear you're doing better. Sometimes it's about perspective and just remembering you're in a much better position than the majority of people. As long as you have your health and goals... there's nothing you can't achieve and no funk you can't get out of.

I was jobless, broke, with no girl and on the verge of being homeless, years and years ago. To see how far I've come is just a testament to how resilient we can be and how there are no obstacles we cannot overcome.
