That does not diminish his role in their careers.......

Slow Jamz launched Jamie and relaunched Twista. .

Be relaunched Common.

Get Lifted launched John Legend.

This single launched Keyshia Cole

He launched Lupe Fiasco

I'm not even counting his own albums in this period :deseanha:

All this happened before Graduation killed off aggressive gangster rap and the NY old guard
was left in dire straits ... only to birth the new school breed of rappers after the laffy taffy era

and still keepin' Jay afloat:pharrell:

No wonder y'all hate this n!gga :gotdamnbreh:

You're still giving Kanye too much credit. I agree with you on Jamie Foxx, but the rest is a different story. "Ordinary People" launched John Legend. I stand corrected in will.i.am producing it. John Legend produced it and will.i.am co-wrote it. "Ordinary People" is one of Legend's biggest records. In fact, none of his biggest records are even produced by Kanye West or have any involvement from him.

"I Changed My Mind" didn't launch Keyshia Cole. "Never" from the Barbershop 2 soundtrack did. "I Changed My Mind" fared better chart wise, but "Never" was Keyshia's first mainstream outing. "I Should've Cheated" is what took her to the next level.

There's no way Kanye is overrated as a rapper anyways. I've never heard people say he was lyrically anything special. If anything he's underrated lyrically. People say he's average and he sucks but I think he spits dope shyt when he wants to.

As far as his sound, if you only like mid 90s NYC shyt, hey that's you. But no genre of music stays the same forever

Mobb Deep is my favorite group of all time. Infamous is my favorite hip-hop album of all time. I appreciate Kanye for what he does, but haven't been as much of a fan since he dropped Yeezus.

I have a Kanye related question though. Not to derail things. I see MBDTF mentioned a lot in here and other threads as his best album. I liked it when it dropped, and those GOOD Fridays were fun. But can anyone explain to me why it's his best album?

I mean Chris Rock was saying that it's literally the best album of all time, and that it's even better than Thriller.

I remember liking it, but among diehard Kanye fans, do you guys really think it's his best effort? I've been a Kanye fan since The Truth and This Can't Be Life, so I love and appreciate Kanye's music. I just wanna know what I'm missing on MBDTF here. I can't put it over Late Registration.

BTW to anyone that hasn't been a fan of Mobb Deep's recent work at least do yourself a favor and check out Prodigy and Alchemist's Albert Einstein album. It's not your typical 90's boom bap NY album, it's full of interesting production, and Prodigy has way more energy on there than anything this side of 2000.

He produced most of Get Lifted and produced the lead single.... album went double plat too
He absolutely deserves credit

It was Keyshia Cole debut single though...

From Beanie Sigel and Dead Prez to Janet and Alicia Keys
all while launching and rejuvenating RNB/Rap careers ......

On top of making his own classics and shifting the culture

Give the guy credit.... maybe he would have been a better rapper if he only produced his own stuff
instead of giving people multiple hits upon hits upon hits

I didn't say Kanye didn't deserve credit. He was definitely a major part of John Legend's success, but Legend produced the song that pretty much shaped his career.

"I Changed My Mind" wasn't Keyshia Cole's debut single. "Never" featuring Eve was her debut.

I usually hear it more as one of the best albums in the 2010s more than his best, which might be why it's always mentioned a lot around here. I also prefer Late Registration but can't take anything away from MBDTF as it's a personal favorite. To me it has no skippable tracks, great production and awesome features.

The thing about MBDTF though is that it's probably placed in the wrong category. It's more of a pop or alternative album that just happens to include rap, which is why Pitchfork and Rolling Stone ate it up.

All these sales figures and who Ye is affiliated with are meaningless and off topic.

Simply put, MBDTF is a pop album with rapping on it. Call it what it is. Ye's album discography is soft drum pop rap.

He's overrated among casual hip hop listeners, just like Eminem is overrated among people who only know of Eminem and Hopsin and think they're some godsent rappers when in reality there are plenty of better rhymers. In that regard Kanye is a bit overrated among non-heads. Half the people who bandwagon and like him don't even listen to rap most of the time - speaking from personal experience. They only ever heard two tracks of WTT and MBDTF and praise him like some second coming. I like few tracks of each of his albums (except MBDTF) but let's not pretend like he's not way overrated.

These old nikkas are just hating to hate now bruh. You can tell because they don't like anything.

They don't like Drake, Kendrick, they barely tolerate Cole, they hate Wale, Big Sean, Cudi, Kanye, etc.

Only hip-hop acts these dudes see in a positive light haven't been active since the 90's. :heh: It's honestly comical.

These nikkas must lead miserable lives.. in the club sitting in the corner moping and shyt when Kanye/Drake/Sean/Cole songs come on :heh:

Actually on second thought, most of em probably never leave their house :lolbron:
