I don't understand NFL GMs and fanbases wanting "offensive gurus" as head coaches

Andy Reid got hired again.
Doug Marrone got hired over Lovie in Buffalo when he didn't even call plays in NO.
Chip Kelly is the hottest NFL coach prospect.

Since 1990 defensive head coaches have doubled the super bowl wins of offensive coaches. 3 of the 4 top seeds are headed by defensive coaches. The best coach of this generation is a defensive coach (:beli:), but every year we see fanbases and GMs fall in love with the latest offensive guru

I'd be PISSED if Chip Kelly was hired as the coach of my team. He does idiotic shyt whenever he's in close games and that's all the NFL is. I'm pretty sure Chip is going to fail.

I don't get how Chip is more qualified than Mike Zimmer or how Ch@n Gailey has gotten 2 shots at being a head coach meanwhile dikk Lebeau probably gave up on his 2nd chance ever happening. I get offenses being exciting and all, but that doesn't mean your head coach has to be an offensive genius.

Buffalo never makes sense. Seems like they just look for the cheapest option.

I think this is a result of the issue in most cases being the incumbent coach getting fired due to losing games. Losing games = losing teams, which is almost always attributed to failure to score points. Most of these teams that have coaching carousels are a result of anemic offenses.

What happened in Chicago this year is exactly that. Defense balled out, ST was solid, but offense is what caused management to go another direction. Most of the time in the NFL when a coach gets fired, or an owner/GM decides to blow the team up, it's because the team sucks, which is almost always associated with the lack of offense.

Can you even remember the last time a coach was fired because the offense was straight, but the defense was lacking? In those situations, they keep the HC and merely bring in a new DC.

I agree that offensive coaches are very overrated in today's day and age, but this is my justification for it. Also, the Saints winning with Sean Payton made a lot of people think that Offense = Championships.

Better question.

Why do coaches with lousy QBs get fired and Coaches with good QBs Don't?

Because teams which fail with bad QBs have GM which have blame to pass. The coach is the obvious scapegoat.

It's just perplexing to me.

No coach would have won with the QB situation in Buffalo, KC and Arizona.

But, Give the coaches Brady, Manning or Rogers and they would all still have a job.

Vick Plays horrible and Andy Reid gets fired. Rivers plays horrible and Norv gets fired.

Mike Tice. The Vikings offense was cooking when he was the HC there.

Reid didn't have a shytty QB. He had a dumbass OC who was there because he wanted him there. Garrett might get canned and while Romo ain't Brady he definitely ain't Jamarcus.

And this year should have made people realize that Sean Peyton is overrated

The saints were 2nd in Total Offense, 3rd in PPG and Last in Defense.

Sean Peyton calling plays this year would not have made 1 difference

What are you talking about? If Vick played like he did in 2010 Reid would still be the Coach of the eagles.

The #1 reason Coaches get fired in the NFL is for shytty QB play.

So coaches gotta have Brady,Manning or Rodgers to be successful every year? Look at SF,Houston and Atlanta, none of their guys are elite and they've had success for a couple of years running.

Steelers and Giants got two SBs each with Ben and Eli who aren't as good as the top 3. Look at what the Ravens are doing with Flacco.

Coaches mainly get fired because of shytty GMs.

If they called plays like they did in 2010 Vick would've played the same. They went from a WCO team with good protection and short to medium routes that ran the ball in 2010. This season Morningweg was calling deep routes with a shytty line and didn't even give Vick outlet routes then treated McCoy like he fukked his daughter or something. They didn't even attempt to run the ball until Shady AND Vick got hurt. That's when the team started playing better

No, You don't have to have the top 3 QBs, but having above average QB play will keep you employed as a head coach.

There are exceptions to the rule.

:childplease: why do y'all let numbers fool y'all so much? Stats make it seem like the saints offense was the same this year but it was a huge downgrade this year. So many sketchy play calling, receivers dropping balls, and our offense losing us games. This is things that rarely happen when Payton was calling plays.
