but I think to limit your musical experience to only one subset of one genre is pretty sad

I would never limit my musical choices based on skin color. If I had, I'd never know the joys of EPMD, Souls of Mischief or A tribe Called Quest. By lowering white musicians, your choosing to put your fingers in your ears and scream 'lalalalalalalala' which is just short sighted and ignorant.

One colonized by the British and the other dealt heavily with them and had to share HK with them. You think the Chinese and Indians at large are picking 7 Day Theory over Rubber Soul?

But anybody who plays an instrument, even on an amateur level, knows there is no comparison between musicians and rappers. In fact hip hop started mainly because they shut down the music programs at schools in the hood, so kids had to basically make music over records that were already made. Now if you were to say poets, yes, some rappers are incredible poets. Scarface, Pac, Jay Z, etc are all incredible lyricists.

I'm not a Beatles fan. I don't own any of their music and only know a couple of their songs, but to say they aren't in the top 2 biggest artist ever with MJ is ridiculous. Even if you don't like the Beatles they get respect from hip-hop.

I feel bad for Elvis with all the hate. He never wanted to be a singer, he wanted to be an actor and in his fame I think he acknowledged the Black influence in his music.
