this is just once example. If you don't have a 0 now you aren't seen as a top guy anymore. That's why all the top fighters are afraid to fight other top guys. All the all time greats took L's and it never diminished diminished greatness. There is no shame in losing to an all time great like Pac even at an advanced age.

Thurman killed his own career losing his "0" to a past primed fighter instead of fighting spence. It wouldve looked way better if that "0" was taken by an "in prime" fighter:gucci:

I Agree with OP's point, not his example. Thurman is in the position he is in because of inactivity, not just because he lost.

Andre Ward already told y'all the game after the Spence-Mikey fight though. Taking an L your promoter can lower your guarantee. OP just used a bad example.

Using Keith Thurman as an example defeats your argument. Mell Charlo lost to Tony Harrison, came back to reclaim his belt, beat Rosario and fought for undisputed last month. Thurman lost to Manny 2 years ago, got injured, had surgery and hasn't fought since.

Losing your 0 isn't a death knell to any boxing career. If you duck elite competition and fight cans to keep your 0 then you lose, I don't know what to tell you.

The greatest fighters in boxing with exception of a few, all have a loss on their records. They still have respect among the fans and their peers.

His injuries had more to do with it than the loss.

I get the point OP is trying to make though. Some of these fighters are dont want to lose their 0

a lot of it has to do with modern boxing popularity not being that high right now.

you gotta have A1 self promoting/an A1 promotional team, or a couple losses, even a single loss can fukk up your "aura"

Jermell Charlo is a worse example, because even though he lost it's universally acknowledged that he was robbed in the 1st Harrison fight

In this sport your only as good as your last fight. So shouldn't your career take a hit if you lose?

You want a fighter to lose and still hold his value? What's the purpose of a win then?

It depends how you lose. Fighters can come out elevated from a fight if it was close on some back n forth type shyt even if they lose.

Floyd putting so much emphasis on his 0 created the current climate we have now if we keeping it a buck. Its why Thurman was saying "I got an 0 and aint afraid to let it go" shyt. Its why it was refreshing to see lopez try to be great n challenge Loma we need more of that in boxing nowadays these kids don't get into no real 50-50 type fights till they 30.

Davis my favorite out the young boy light weights but he aint fought nobody yet n he like 26-27 for example at 27 de la hoya had already fought an undefeated genaro,Miguel angel, Chavez 2x, Camacho, Whitaker, bazooka ike, tito, Gatti and mosley.

to be honest, the fans put more emphasis on his 0 than he did. People literally tuned in hoping he would lose.

If you take the gamble, don't complain about the outcome when you lose.

What has Thurman done since his loss? That's much more important than losing your 0. Lopez was the B-side in the Loma fight. He did exactly what fighters should do and leverage the 0 to big fights.

It's all about leverage. If you want to make the most out of your career, put yourself in the best situation to gain leverage. The 0 matters.
