Can you imagine the pandemonium? The Pterodactyls would be groomed and trained security officials (like k9s). They were primates and they were in areas that the meteor didn't reach. Eventually due to plate tectonics they got moved to other parts of the world. They were available to develop and evolve into humans growing more advanced as the years went on. Until soon you have the humans.
