Literally, the term "homophobia" is absolutely a misnomer. People are not fearing gays on a person-to-person sense at all.

You can dislike something and literally be afraid of it. You can also dislike something without fearing it. One thing I've noticed is the net of "homophobia" is quite wide. There's no "blackphobia" or "Africanphobia" net to crush those to dust who speak out of line. The power isn't there and the offenders bounce back like nothing happened. Gays have power because they not only get apologies, they have people undergoing therapy and profusely apologizing. I'm waiting for the next person who talks sideways about blacks going to Africa, "relearning" history and begging bygones to be bygones. Maybe I shouldn't hold my breath on that.
