Hey coli gang. So after a recent life changing event i decided to CHALLENGE myself by reading one neww book a week for the rest of the year starting today. I cant tell yall the last time I read a book from start to finish because i honestly dont even remember.

But I figured itd be dope if this became a group activity. So I CHALLENGE ALL OF YOU! Pick up a book youve never read and try and finish it by in ONE week! When you're done reading a book, come back and tell us:

1. What you read and by who
2. why you picked that particular book
3. A brief (AS BRIEF AS YOU WANT) summary of the book
4. What you think the author was saying by writing the book or what was he trying to accomplish.
5. What you learned from reading the book

Thats it! You can read whatever book you want but you have to read!

A lot of folks say that if you put the secret of life in a book no one would read it and i believe it! I havent read a new book or magazine from cover to cover in a very long time and im now taking control of myself and educating myself! So lets do it

can i count last week? I just got done reading Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. Basically it's about a man getting captured during World War 2 and he was at Dresden when it was fire-bombed. The story is told in a very non-linear fashion as the guy basically starts losing his mind after the war.

excellent book and I really like Vonnegut's writing style.

Sounds dope. I'd get in on this whole idea at some point September. Side note: I just noticed the description under your username lmao.

but real talk... 'the big payback' audiobook is the absolute best

Man this is GREAT! I was expecting to get a bunch of "one star" responses! (Yes I know this is the coli and someone will now reply "One star" just to be funny)

@Domingo Halliburton Heck yea that counts. Without revealing too much of the story, why does he start to lose his mind. Are there outside forces at work or is he standing in his own way?

@Brown_Pride Robert brown is a crazy good author! I read 48 laws half heartedly a few years back and like what was being said. But a friend of mine who read it says its an evil book because you shouldnt have to treat people that way to get ahead in life. its inhumane. What do you think?

@kingofnyc Come on, dont cheat us! tell us why

To anyone else that wants to get in on the action, DO IT! It will really better your life

I'll tell you what. I'm on law 17 or so right now on my first go through and the unfortunate truth of the matter is that everything i've heard up to this point is just describing human interactions with others. The book, from what I can tell, is solid in understanding people, particularly those seeking power.

So not only is it not inhumane, it's too human...

Denying what we are ultimately makes you a mark for someone more pragmatic. I've been more or less preaching for the last few months or so that people are the main issue with most things, we're greedy, self serving and self preserving creatures, this book seams to understand that and gives insight in how to manage those things.

I'll probably have to read this things about 4 times to get the most out of it and no joke I will be taking notes:smile:

I love the idea of this thread. Rather that limit it to this Friday I would love to see it be a weekly challenge. I've been itching to scoop up another Stephen King novel so we will see if this week will happen.

it has to do with things that happened to him as a kid and what happens in the war. they really don't delve into it too much.

he starts thinking of time as non-linear and moments in time always exist.

so the story from his perspective ends up being told by jumping around all over the place in time at different points in his life.
