I have them both. I say if you're going to play online you should buy the system your friends have (I know you already bought it but oh well). My brother plays playstation 4 and everyone else plays x1. Truthfully from a gaming experience there is no difference. Whichever one has the exclusives you prefer is the better system from a gaming perspective. I will say based on pure entertainment I think you made the right decision. If you have cable and you watch tv while gaming you can do both at the same time on x1. Not sure I can do that on PS4. If possible somebody let me know. I watched a football game with the snap fit tv app while playing bf4 and had audio from both. Crazy thing is the audio didn't compete with each other.
