The bloat of Rebirth is mostly optional.
as is refantazio :dahell:

refantazio's story puts it over the top.

Zach's entire involvement in the story is bloat. It was completely unnecessary in the end.

Rebirth is too fukking long. All these god damn battle challenges. This nikka Cloud having heat flashes every 5 minutes. “Get the black materia”
“Get the black materia” “Get the black materia”

Alright! I heard you the first time DAMN :damn:

But seriously the game has been dope so far its just the story is weak to me :yeshrug:

Ok, im not arguing. It’s fantasy persona

heismay and basillio don’t make up for the rest of the cast being bland just like persona
It’s a fantasy Persona? Persona is modern high school with supernatural elements. It’s a press turn system game but from a narrative standpoint they’re completely different.

Also Persona doesn’t have bland cast. The problem is the cast centers around the silent or in this case semi-silent protagonist (who is typically bland) that the party suffers for not really having much in the way of relationships with each other. Most interactions center on an almost mute generic character.

All these Atlus press turn RPGs are afraid to have a well defined main character who is independent from the player.

I disagree, thought all the companion missions stories were super boring aside from the two mentioned and even the way they were told is starting to get played out. They might as well be visual novels at this point

Have you not played any of their other games? They are almost exactly that and have always been that since at least Persona 3. Most parts don't even have voice acting. The side stories in their games have always been trash and the only reason to do them is to get whatever upgrade is behind them rather than to be told an interesting story. Doesn't make the actual characters bland though.

what are you even arguing with me about this is literally your thread talking about one game being better than another and im agreeing with you. I don’t care that you don’t agree with my reasoning.

FF7R and especially rebirth are masterpieces.

Remakes, retelling and sequel's all wrapped into one, the combat and size and scope of the world improved with each game, its really a work of art.

Game has been snubbed for GOTY twice now. I get pt1 losing to GoT, but rebirth should have definitely taken home GOTY.

The fact that yall even comparing a AAA remake of an iconic RPG to a brand new IP speaks for itself :banderas:

I believe in it's GOTY status but my personal problems keep me from fully getting into it

I see and appreciate the polish and all the work that's gone into the game...
but for some reason every time I've tried to dig in I get overwhelmed or bored and pause for a bit

I'm only in upper Junon but I never feel like I'm great at the battle system, haven't died yet but I just feel like I'm going through motions each battle
I'm not great with managing the team and their materia/trying to learn their weapon skills permanently

I think the reason I was able to stay with Refantazio was the overall pacing felt more accessible/traditional
Both have a lot of talking but I feel like when I'm in a dungeon I'm in a dungeon, with dialog I can skip through if it gets to be too much

Rebirth had so many cutscenes in everything it sometimes takes me out of it

I said this before but I think Rebirth was a lock for GOTY had it not released so early in the year.

All the other nominees dropped 6-8 months later and had recency bias going for them.
