Talented Mr. Ripley and Good Will Hunting.

I think Leo's a great actor, but Damon owned these two movies so bad that I just don't see Di Caprio come close.

Oh and have to get this off my chest - Leo didn't deserve an Oscar for Revenant. Wolf yes, this - hell no.

I haven't seen TTMR but i agree that I can't really picture anyone else in Goodwill Hunting aside from Matt Damon but I will say Leo would come closer to duplicating that performance then Matt Damon would when playing Calvin Candie in Django.

Leo would have been too serious in "The Martian". Damon played it perfectly...

Ehhhh I kindve think The Martian would've been a cakewalk for Leo.

So who outshined who in The Defarted?

That's a tough one for me because they're playing their roles so differently because the roles were so different but opposites of the same coin. I'd say Leo had the more showy role because he got to play all those emotions while Damon had to keep them all under wraps. He only shows emotion in the elevator climax.

Damon's an average actor who can only play two types of roles.

Agreed. And I would even go that far to say that Di Caprio would be excellent in Good Will Hunting (I can picture him saying that military anecdote), however it is really hard to replace someone who is already in your head.

People get attached to the roles they see on TV. For instance, I could never accept anyone else as Tony Soprano, because Gandolfini was that convincing in that role. Or Pacino in Scarface etc...

All in all, it is really hard to say or compare, as it all comes down to preference and genre of movie. For me, Di Caprio is the better actor of the two and I honestly can't see Damon perform better than Leo in Wolf Of Wall Street. Completely different actors and completely different style of acting. Maybe a comparison between Damon and Wahlberg would be more suitable.

Leo is more dynamic and has way more range.

But because Leo's roles are usually more demanding, a bad Leo performance is worse than a bad Damon performance.
