I am confident that "The Descent" is a top 5 most overrated horror movie

It gets props for being an all woman cast in a genre that doesn't usually feature a majority of women as part of its casts.
FACT

Modern horror classic.

:umad:
Also a fact

In comparison to the trash that's been out since 2000, yeah its one of the best horror movies of the 2000s.
More facts.

It occupies this weird space in my opinion. It's a a decent movie that became overrated because of the low level of films that were being pumped out around that time.

i think the backstory and interplay between the characters is what made it stand out from the pack
there were subtle things going on with each of the characters

friends abandoning each other
betrayal- one girl was having an affair with the widow's husband
friends keeping eahc other in the dark (not sharing the danger signs)
cold revenge vs. spontaneous vengeance
false bravado from one character screwing over the group
power changes within the group- the meek get strong, the bold fall back
(this is from memory based on two viewings)

I don't see it rated very highly, it was an alright flick and the european version had a much more grim (and better I think) ending.

It didn't quite live up to the hype, but the intensity/buildup of the first half was great and that alone puts it above most horror movies of the last 10 years.

Think the 'Descent' was great, I saw that in theaters with my sister, oddly enough. It's tense, unrelenting, claustrophobic, dirty and ugly and doesn't let the viewer of the hook, it has that realism that Neil Marshall does so well, to suspend the disbelief. As far as not living up to hype, I didn't like 'High Tension' at all, the set up and initial rising action is cool, but the ending and explanation is ludicrous, and it doesn't earn it's viciousness or ugly violence imo.
