Hypothetical: You are the GM of the Rockets in '84...who do you take number one?

Olajuwon, Bowie, Jordan, Stockton, Barkley, Perkins and Thorpe all on the board...you got mainly Ralph Sampson at the time, not yet seen as a bust.

You goin with a big in Dream, and that twin tower attack, focusing on being next to impossible to guard and an inside out offense?

Jordan, a prolific scorer and stud athlete translating on both sides of the court, as well as a kid with laser like determination?

How about Stockton? Machine like and team first, you know you can rely on him to be efficient and loyal, if nothing else, yet hes from a small school...do you roll the dice on a potential goat type pg despite the lack of fan fare?

How about sir charles? Enigmatic as he is charismatic...yet a bull with the ball and getting to the ball. Inside and outside game with athletic ferocity and intellect..capable of playing 2 positions at HOF calibre..but he is a handful to deal with, will probably leave your team, and has questionable work ethic though at this point, its unclear.

:umad:

Im goin with Dream.

Revisionist history would have you think Rod Thorn is an idiot for what he said about Michael Jordan. Who knew that c00n dancing with that umbrella on the cover of SI would end up being the best player ever?

You gotta go with Hakeem in that spot. Teaming him with a stud (n/h) big man in Ralph Sampson is a good way to start the foundation of a team.

You cant miss out on Hakeem especially after his college career

Come to think of it, I might even offer sampson to portland for the two and scoop jordan/stockton/barkley depending on front office consensus..I would have seen sampson as frail..revisionist aside

You probably could've pulled off any trade for Sampson. His value in 1984 was crazy high you possibly could've gotten any player in the league

:wow: Didn't Hakeem say that the Blazers or Rockets could have somehow gotten MJ, Hakeem, and Drexler on the same squad too? :merchant: :damn:

He went to UH too. Took them to the NC game with Clyde Drexler. Gotta pick the hometown kid.

Yup especially since they didnt pick Drexler last year, Houston would've gone crazy if they passed up Hakeem.

But nobody ever talks about how Dallas drafted Sam Perkins over Charles Barkley that year

Sam is one of my personal favorite players..biggest weedhead during game player..just had to have been...but I must say, perkins and jordan probably diminished each others value in the draft..which turned out to be okay for perkins cause he wasnt a bad pro but wasnt great..and killed portland, causing them to probably lean more towards another big instead of potentially duplicating drexler.
