Doesn't it slow down dramatically when it hits land ?

Depends on how far inland it gets. Its already slow moving as is. So if the center of the storm rides along the coast then the speed and intensity should stay the same, of course when it gets up to near the SC/NC border it should weaken to a Cat 2 where the waters are cooler.
