For anybody that remembers hurricane Charly.....

This is yet another trend of storms like Michael, Laura, Delta, Ida, etc strengthening all the way up until landfall.

Going back to Harvey in 2017 before it hit Rockport. It went from a Cat 1 to a Cat 4 almost overnight before it made landfall. The entire Gulf seems like the perfect area for hurricanes to strengthen rapidly from August to October.

Yeah it's worded terribly...it's comparing eyes between the two since Charly's eye was only 5 miles compared to Ian's 60 miles wide...
