Something that humbled me real quick is what my Physics professor told us once: if the planet wants to get rid of us it'll be a piece of cake. We are really not working with much at the end of the day. Look how small the Earth's crust and atmosphere are to the rest of the planet. These crazy little shifts the Earth is making are basically trivial to it.

it could be that distance becomes confusing the further up you go and the further down you go (IE things expand the further you go up, and things collapse the further you go down)
