Your post brings to mind Nietzsche saying "Man is a rope stretched between the animal and the superman - a rope over an abyss"I interpret this as Humans being stuck with very primitive instincts, while being conscious of our primitive animal nature and aware that there are layers of emotional, spiritual and physical potential still untapped. Being stuck between these two poles makes us very neurotic, confused and as you say mad as a species.

Well that's the thing you just do a little better each time. That's the course of progress. There's a little bit of virus in every cure. We needed marauders in order to learn how to live without them. I would say its moreso us learning the hard way. Unfortunately we arent blessed with a Raven Symone ability to see exactly how it's gonna play out.
