I’m not saying animals don’t show/have emotion, but they do in their own way. Some primates actually do smile to display happiness. But if you’re making eye contact and smiling at your dog it may think you’re angry, since showing/barring teeth is a sign of aggression in dog language.

The definition of personification is giving human traits to animals, things ... I again would say it’s just the physical configuration of their jaw anatomy when they opened their mouths instead of the animals smiling and posing for a picture.

for example, A dog with its mouth slightly ajar is a dog relaxed/content or tryna keep cool because they don’t have sweat glands the way humans do.
