Both of them are 90's rappers. And they both had bars. Both of them are artists who didn't hold back with how they expressed themselves. Why should they? They might feel like rapping, singing, dropping spoken word, or just an instrumental. It's not they thought they were too good, but what person who feels they are good at multiple things would just be like "well, I'm just going to do this one thing even though I feel like I do this well too". It's like an athlete who is good at multiple sports saying I'm just going to play football even though he's also good at basketball.

I don't think they thought rap was beneath them. I think (for Andre at least) that they'd hope that the art of rap gravitated more toward challenging itself and it's people and once realizing that it was mostly the negative aspects being pushed, became disinterested.
