Nothing about the article is groundbreaking or new.

Progressive movement is largely a movement constrained to liberal big cities.

If you're looking to grow that movement you're either going to have to make concessions with others on the left or somehow rope in the vile creatures on the right who have happily supported Trumpism.

If anyone has tried to rope in the vile creatures on the right (we are 100% in agreement on their vileness btw), it's been the moderate wing of the party. Clinton pivoted to get them back from the Republicans, moving the country and party right in the process. I'm not aware of when the far left struck an alliance with the far right, but this may be a subject I can be educated on.

Some of the most prominent New Deal advocates in congress were dixiecrats. It is legit.

They were far-right in terms of race relations, but were pro-labor and wanted a better standard of living.

The far-right of today does not resemble that group.

This is what happens when class and race get separated instead of being seen as diseases emanating from the wealthy.

The moderates of today ironically cater to them as well, in the sense that they do not want to offend those people. So people who are like "*snicker* Let's go back to those times," are as usual being disingenuous.
