I'm not surprised that @concise disagreed with me but I'm a little floored that the church musician @Chris.B disagreed as well....

So Chris... You mean to tell me that you've never had or seen a member(s) that was either in the choir or wanted to be in the choir but couldn't sing.... singers that are so bad that they throw off the rest of the choir? Really, bro??? Those singers can be taught as well?

I'm not talking out of my behind. I've been involved with music pretty much all of my life which includes singing and playing instruments. I don't agree that people can be taught, especially when they're tone deaf.
I have seen bad singers who have taken vocal lessons and become very good.
If a singer knows they are bad and are willing to work on it, they usually turn out good.

Problem here is some people can't sing but people tell them they can

Ok, but by your own admission, those bad singers can be taught. There's a difference between ok singers who have terrible mechanics that need to be fixed and really bad singers that no matter what you do, they'll still be terrible.

Also, the reality is that most people won't get that extra help when they are that TURRIBLE(in Charles Barkley voice)

my point is if a singer is bad and they are willing to get some help....they can be good.
It all comes down techniques. No one is born singing from the womb.

I don't really like this term. It's a misnomer, too.

But if I could sing, I'd sing all the time. I'd sing conversations. Y'all are lucky.

And I'm not "tone-deaf" ... dammit.

If everyone could sing like Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, ect..... Singing wouldn't be an extraordinary talent. There are bitter singers right now that are mad because they're ok singers but not professional quality.

I'd take being an OK, "non-professional quality" singer at this point. :russ:

Y'all need to cherish that gift. Being able to sing well is :blessed:

But as the African proverb says, "If you can talk, you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance."

So if you don't have the potential to be one of those types of singers, you need not bother trying?

:wtf:

Really, dude????? Some people HAVE IT and some don't... Michael Jackson and a lot of the great singers were child prodigies that discovered their talents as early as 3-4 years old and nurtured their talent through church and talent shows.... MJ was EIGHT when started singing professionally... and he was just the lead for Jackson 5.

That's basically what you're saying here. The "it" you're talking about is one of those special voices. You're not just talking about singing.

It's like if someone asks, can you learn how to play a piano. Anyone can learn to play a piano, but just because you can't play like Thelonious Monk doesn't mean you can't play the piano.

in every area of life there are some people who will excel better than others, that's not the point.

My point here is being a Ok to a good enough singer. He is willing to put a little effort into it....he can be OK.

There will always be people who are very good compared to others, that's just a fact of life. We all can't be the best at everything but we can be better.

Wait...wait... Mike a great singer???

His range, vibrato, resonance weren't spectacular.

He was just the arguably the greatest total package as a musician the game has ever seen.

For your entertainment......

:russ:That dude sounds like he may be able to carry a tune if he wasn't doing the most. I think if he limited the runs he does, he would sound a lot better. The two guys in the choir that were laughing had me :dead:.

Also, the terrible singer reminds me of that singer in the group, silk, without the talent of course. The one that start singing @ 3:32.
